Hey, you were the guy right who didn't like the window animations? I wanted to tell you I put in an option to disable the animations between the main menu and it's subviews.

Just a note saying I've just implemented a true "shuffle" mode. You wont have any repeats until every song has played, and you can move back and forth (previous/next) within the "random playlist." It will be in the next uploaded version of AMP.

Also, I've tweaked the normal & playlist modes so that they will automatically loop around and repeat the CD, etc.

That isn't as easy as it should be

Check out BluePhoneElite. It does pretty much exactly what you are talking about. It uses transparent floater windows so it could be used with AMP easy enough.

My thought is to make it configurable as to what the user can put on there (mainly I was thinking about the "Extras" menu, but it could apply to the Main Menu as well. Personally, i'll never use the Photos or Movies option as I think they are too dangerous while driving.

I'm trying to think of a way to quickly jump between music/photos/movies/misc without having to jump back to the main menu. Programatically, it's (literally) nothing, but I mean as far as design of the UI.
That's what I thought about using the extra 800x120 pixels for. The upside here is that those using 800x600 get some extra convience, but the 800x480 users don't miss any real functionality (they would just be hidden off the screen).

great idea. But isn't that kind of limiting to the people using 800x480? I mean they should have access to those options too. I think it would be better if you guys somehow streched the AMP window to fill up the 800x600 screen. It would look streched and distorted on a regular display but would look completely normal on a touchscreen with 800x600. im sure this would be really hard though... maybe you guys could implement something from core graphics (or is is core video) that would strech everything out vertically.

Also, does an ipod show upp on the lists menu if you plugged one in? So for example if I had another ipod that had diferent songs (or if a pal came by and wanted to listen to his stuff) Could that show up in AMP and pay songs from it? Or is iTunes too restrictive for other people's ipods that it would simply not work...?

EDIT: I like the idea of tabs too

I like the idea of tabs...I don't know how hard that would be though.

I don't think so. By using that space as a quick bar for features that can be accessed in other manners, they aren't missing anything. They just have to go the long route to get there.

If you do something else, then you either A) make it look different on the 600s or B) indeed drop actual functionality for the 480 crowd. Would you rather miss functionality altogether or just have to take a longer path to get somewhere?

Also, does an ipod show upp on the lists menu if you plugged one in?
Nope. Doesn't work in Front Row either. Neither do CDs. CDs I *think* will be easy (another thing I want to try to look at soon), but iPods are a bit more complicated due to the way Apple tries to obfuscate everything.

I dont see why there has to be a choice. Maybe have options where the person can choose if he is using 800x600 and that space on top will be filled up with tabs or whatever; or select 800x480 and have it like it is exactly now; or have a 800x480 w/menu bar, then the 480 people could have some kind of tabs bar either on the side or on top for the same functionality as the 800x600...

wow i didnt notice that about CDs... :S .... as for the ipod, yeah i kind of figured it would be a pain, whenever you try to plug in someone elses ipod it ALWAYS asks to reformat lol. If there some kind of something that i can use to listen to an ipod when i plug it into the comp? i dont want to copy anything over, it would be the same as using an aux port in your car lol only cooler. oh well, dont mean to hijack the thread.
