I have been contacted by 2 people looking for LVDS cables to interface the PQ LCD to different boards.

    Any interest?
So if I understand correctly, you would provide a controller with an HDMI input for their Pixel Qi panel, so I would just have to add the capacitive touch and the enclosure. Would have a button to turn off the backlight too?

Yes, I would be interested, definitely.

Well, yes and no. I didn't mention HDMI becasue I do not know yet which controller I am going to use.

Ideally, the best choice is to go with a controller that has EDID support.

A PCTS touch solution is in the works as well.

I just ordered 20 panel side cables tonight.

I will look into an on/off toggle for the backlight.

Update on Engadget today regarding Pixel Qi screens:

The characteristic most often associated with Pixel Qi screens -- aside from their prized daylight-readable quality -- up to this point has been scarcity. Hoping to correct that supply shortage, Mary Lou Jepsen's team has today announced a partnership with Taiwanese manufacturer Chunghwa Picture Tubes to, well, produce some picture tubes. Apparently, "the teams have been working together quietly all fall" and now they're ready to make things official, while also announcing that three new panels will be coming to market at various points during 2011. The first of those, a 7-inch screen with a 1024 x 600 resolution, is set to make its debut at CES in early January, with mass production coming in the second quarter of the year. Another note of interest is the tally of three million Pixel Qi displays shipped over the past three years -- let's hope we can double that number through 2011, eh?

Thanks. I said hdmi but dvi would work just as well. AFAiK you have to turn off the backlight for full reflective functionality.

ok, i might not want a 7" screen after reading that-- apparently, the one they are coming out with will have a resolution of 1024x600-- so it might be widescreen, and would no longer fit in my dash without work..

For me, I would prefer the higher res screen, 800x480 is just sub-par unfortunately.

1024x600 would give a much sharper image, and would really make it pop I think.

Although, if I was getting a new screen, I would probably just dump a 12-15" in the dash, and move my heater controls, really go nuts on it

i should have clarified-- it isn't the higher resolution that bothers me, it is the possibility that it would no longer be around 7"x4", and would fit in a double din opening without major mods..

though, once i see the overall measurements, it still might be worthwhile to use..

    Adding a simple on/off toggle shouldn't be a problem.

I will get back to this once the cables I ordered arrive.
Probably sometime after the New Year.
