Scripting Layer for Android (SL4A) brings scripting languages to Android by allowing you to edit and execute scripts and interactive interpreters directly on the Android device. These scripts have access to many of the APIs available to full-fledged Android applications, but with a greatly simplified interface that makes it easy to get things done.
Scripts can be run interactively in a terminal, in the background, or via Locale. Python, Perl, JRuby, Lua, BeanShell, JavaScript, Tcl, and shell are currently supported, and we're planning to add more. See the SL4A Video Help playlist on YouTube for various demonstrations of SL4A's features.
SL4A is designed for developers and is alpha quality software. Please report bugs and feature requests on the issues list. You can download the current APK by scanning or clicking the following barcode:

Yep. I used that for running JRuby on my phone. I was testing out a tutorial for developing a JRuby app that used my phone as a spy cam. It was fun to build.

Got the Dring error again. It looks to be a software I uninstalled but was still listed on AndCar's menu. I reinstalled that app and AndCar opened, then removed the link, closed uninstalled again and reopened and all was fine... kinda points to it being that problem.
Stay tuned for later today there will be a small update and another release for beta testing, probably wont be anything you can tell, unless i get motivated, but internally i added crash reporting, so when it crashes it automatically sends me a crash report so you dont have to and i get the exact log output which helps me figure out what went wrong.
Ok so didnt get the update out, ive got a lot of flights this week so wont be able to get much done, but here is what im working on for the next release, the app is pretty much done, gonna do some fine tuning on the layouts to make the fonts better. Then make an app icon and update a few of the graphics with new images and it should be done.
Then im gonna get started on the launcher app and add in the basic listening features for that. So hopefully a week, two max and those will be ready, just got busy with work so running a little slow.
If anyone wants to help, i could use some graphics help like always, PM me if you are willing to help and ill give you info, looking for help in anything so even just something small will help.
A couple of suggestions for this:
- If Navigation is running, have the option to keep it open on half of the screen (or even just the corner)
- In any and all programs, if you touch the screen with five fingers and rotate, it will adjust the volume in proportion to the amount you rotate.
- Call it Ice Cream Truck/Van!

@Craysh
1. Not possible, android doesnt allow integration of other apps, so the only way to handle other apps is to allow them to launch and then continue running in the background
2. technically possible, but way to complicated for a single feature that not everyone would like or use, and only on the screens in my app would it work
