Damn me too, I just read this whole thread hoping to jump in and help in some function, even if it was only on graphics. Guess I'll pm Night and see what he's doing with it.

I have been a longtime Google User and Android fan. Also big into GPS and Google Earth, etc. What I really want is the ability to use Google Earth/Navigation on a 2 DIN format without having to install a carputer. I really just want certain functionality like sensor/OBD integration, cameras, GPS, stereo. I do not have a need to watch movies or do spreadsheets in the car. What would be really cool is if FLIR cameras were affordable and accessible!
I saw this on eBay, and wondered if we're finally there with the tech: http://www.ebay.com/itm/7Android-2Di...fe7bdf&vxp=mtr
Can anyone chime in on my wishlist? Will Google Nave/Earth work on this device (with the WiFi dongle, of course)?
Dam.... month later and still no follow-up. One thing I hate about this place... too much info... even using search tools, I can't seem to find the direction/help I need. I've been wanting to install a system for years, initially a carputer, but in the time that has passed - I am at the point I'm gonna go Android, removable tablet - like the one I posted in the link in the last post. I get a tablet that plugs in and integrates with my installed car system.
ANYONE????
Wish i could see what you're looking at..the ebay link don't go anywhere..
I'm preparing to install a 7" tablet and most what you mention is doable (if that's what you're asking). Google maps work flawless but to use Google Earth, you have to first "cache" the route (as far as i understand). The main programs i intend to use are (besides the stock Android apps) are CarHome Ultra (front end), Tasker (automation), Torque (OBD) and Google Music. The sound from the tablet will go through the factory stereo which has a aux input.
You want FLIR? What are you driving? F-16? :-)
Your project it totally doable, just start it and come back with specific questions if you run into trouble.
Here's what I'm going to go with - as soon as I finish replacing my transmission first.... :(
It's the Erisin ES8035A Android tablet (Capacitive touchscreen)

Looks like an interesting product. But is there a newer version of Android for it?
