Well, there's mimics, for the iOS people (like me). But I'm not really interested in buying a touchscreen that is as expensive as a tablet. If I had a touchscreen already, if the phone was going to replace my carputer, that's different.
I'll tell you what needs to happen to make me really satisfied is when the smartphones can not only extend their display to an external monitor (this is already possible) but to an external touchscreen that will enable you to control it from that external monitor rather than having to still use the smartphone to control the display. Not an ideal situation in the car.

Well, I bought a Viewpad 7e off amazon for $169 after a lot of researching. Has BT and wifi, and I can tether GPS from my phone.
Its a little big to fit in my dash. Id have to do some hacking. Which would be OK if not for the next problem.
The screen viewing angle is garbage. You pretty much have to be looking at it straight on. And the way it mounts in my dash, its not going to work.
So I'm going to return it and find something else.
Tell me, what are the viewing angles on the Dell streak? Up down, left right. The way it sits it would be looked at from above and to the right. Needs to be viewable this way. Also direct sunlight is a concern.
Anyone heard of the Cube U9GT
I'll try and remember to take some pics of mine in the car from the drivers seat tomorrow and post them up for you. Mine is flat mounted center of the dash and it views fine from the driver or passenger seat. With the brightness all the way up it does pretty good against the sun.
Best bang for buck BY FAR i've found is the HTC Evo View 4G from sprint. Can be bought off contract for ~$200. I just got one for my wife for xmas and its perfect. Super fast even though its single core 1.5ghz and you have the option to use a data plan from sprint for 4G access. ICS will be available in Q2 if you're interested in that. I was looking at tablets in the $200 like the streak, kindle fire, and nook color, but none of them match the performance of the View. Comes with a gig of ram, 32GB of onboard storage and a sd card port for more space if you need it. It's the perfect 7" tablet if you ask me.

I'm not certain if this is the right spot for this question. I'm seriously considering installing the acer iconia a100 7inch tablet in my car. Initially I was all on board with installing a regulation car pc and even had my girl buy me one for Christmas (IBM Lenovo dual processor & 7 inch touchscreen) but have pretty much changed my mind because of the screen technology that tablets possess compared to the standard car pc screen. I'm trying to find out how to power it though. How to connect it to a power supply in the mp3car store and should I power it through a true sine wave power inverter. There is a video on mp3car that shows how to power a laptop with the P2140 (think), but the problem for me is that the tablet doesn't use a power brick like the laptop in the video. Any advice would be appreciated.
