Galaxy tablet install in Avalanche, works but...

I cant get the tablet to "standby" when I turn the truck off. I added an outlet in the dash that only has key on power. I have to press the power button on tablet or disconnect cable to get it to standby. It wakes up fine when ignition is switched on and the outlet has 0.000 volts when switched off. I've been using Tasker and the Screen Off app but all that does is turns the screen black and drains the battery. Pressing the power button's kinda a pain because I have to pop dash trim loose. How can I fix this without relocating power switch?
B.t.w. This is a VERY easy install in trucks with Bose systems. I was able to keep AM/FM/CD/SAT, steering wheel controls, etc. Attachment 65789

i had a similar issue when trying to install a dell streak in my tacoma, i could use tasker to turn off the radios and screen when external power was disabled which is your best bet. i dont know of any "standby" that can be enabled for these. i always seemed to come out to a dead tablet in the morning which wouldn't bother me if i knew how to get it to boot with external power but i couldnt figure that out either

turn on flight mode with tasker when the power is off...and turn it on back again with power

i did use flight mode with my previous setup, make sure your media playback is stopped when external power is lost as well as that will drain your battery. also on crank over tasker will sometimes get confused due to the power distortion

All media is stopped and apps are closed. I've seen Tasker get confused when ignition is switched to aux for a period of time before cranking. When "confused" it goes through exit process, then senses power and cycles everything back to the on state.

here's a idea i just thought about, It'd be hilarious if it worked. tape a good earth magnet to the top of the power button, and try to use a small magnet on repel :) slide the magnet over the dash and the repelling effect might be enough to turn it on and off lmao! or you could probably rig a string to pull and run it behind to turn the switch on and off is possible as well lol!

most reliable way would probably be drilling a small hole above the power button and making a physical push button for on off tbh.

you should use the WAIT command to let Tasker not be confused when switching power. When it starts the exit process, let it wait 3 seconds and then check again: if power is really off then execute exit process, if it's on, stop the exit task.

Do you have Tasker configured to turn anything else off when the ignition is turned off? ie. When your car turns off you should set Tasker to turn off your GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi etc. and force close any apps that might be turning them back on eg. Torque appears to turn Bluetooth back on if it's still running etc. Also pause your music, this is another drain on battery life.
There's a Battery section somewhere in settings that will tell you what used the most battery since it was last unplugged, this could help you find what drains the battery while the car is off.

Slotoy ... I am very interested in finding out how you were able to keep the steering wheel controls functioning with that install. I am thinking of doing the same on a 2004 Avalanche. Please share some details of your install. Thanks!!
