you could control it over Ethernet....
all you need is a little hardware...Ethernet to serial, well.. the tricky part of this is DTR and RTS control
then you could forget the whole usb thing

"Did you test it in carwings??"
Sun, Come shine my way
May healing waters bury all my pain
Wind, Carry me home
The fabric of reality is tearing apart
The piece of me that died
Will return To live again
Since it is a small java file, I have attached the FTDI/PL2303 Driver file as a text file to this post.
Just a followup note. I have attempted to contact tuffbob (poster of the YouTube video) and no reply. Would be nice if he would at least respond. However, it's only been a week so we'll see.
I'm thinking at this point that FTDI driver or not, in the end it must create a serial port object in Android and communication happens with that serial port. So to get over the OTG + Charging a Bluetooth serial adapter may also work.
My research continues. If I know I can get reliable serial communication with the radio, I may actually attempt to make something in the way of an app (pretty green at Android development).
