Well, another issue with the bluetooth receiver. Well, maybe 2....

When it powers up, big thump(s) on the amps/speakers. I can maybe prevent that by making sure it powers up before the amps, but....

Sometimes, when the tablet is switching between sources, there is also a thump. It is rather annoying. And I don't know of any way (yet) to force a mute during switching.

The previous BT receiver did not do this.

you need a delay switch, it will basically pause whatever it's connected to for a few seconds to stop those thumps. I think I got mine from radio shack.

Interesting. I'll have to look into that. That would definitely help the start-up scenario. Only once in a while there is a pop when Android switches. That is, if I fire up the media player, I can get a pop before the first tune starts playing. Not sure I'll be able to get around that.

For media sharing would Skifta work? I know I use it on my Nexus 7 to connect to my Tversity server at home. Not sure if Skifta is on two android devices if they can share that way or not.

I am unfamiliar with Skifta. Really, if you use TVersity then there may be no need to share what is on other devices. I choose to have that option because when we are camping or at the cottage, I do not need to keep the car computer on. We can simply watch what movies we have across our devices.

The USB idea for Audio has not worked out quite as well as I liked and I am going to look into the delay thing. Some basic circuit that will delay the amps for 5-10 seconds should be enough.

I have temporarily run a 12ft headphone extension to plug into the tablet and run back to the amps (with the appropriate RCA adapter cord of course).

The ELM adapter works fine. But I am not finding Torque all the useful. It's a good app to be sure, I just don't really find it useful right now.

Good project! Do you experience any lag with the bluetooth receiver between audio from speakers and video from the tablet?

I have not noticed that as of yet. But admittedly I have not watched much video in the vehicle. I will do a specific test on this over the weekend and post my findings.

I will not use the bluetooth audio much until I incorporate a good amp power-up delay to avoid the POP.

Tasker is quite handy. I do not yet have the scripts tweaked to where I am completely satisfied, it is definitely coming along. I have 3 profiles right now. One to detect that we are in the car, one to detect that we are no longer in the car, and one that we are still in the car but the ignition is off. This last one is for short stops where I will leave the tablet in the car. I do not have a permanent mounting solution in my test setup. As mentioned in the beginning the Android solution will be in my wife's car so needs to be working as expected. If I ever permanently mount it will be 7" not the 10" I am working with. So to that end I am setting up Tasker scripts to handle the various scenarios. The next script will be to wake it up again after our short stop.

Once I have reasonable tasker scripts for these scenarios, I will share them here.
