appradio 2 android override hack in the works

Wanted to drop the line that there is a developer in the process of making android fully usable in the appradio 2 via a app called killnanny. So far he's been able to get it to work on his device and has opened up beta testing to others who donate, he plans to offer the required app on the market once he has a final release.

    here are the related links:

As a current beta tester this app is more of an Alpha state right now, some devices work while others don't which is what is currently being worked on.

The benefits to this setup is that you have a 7" capacitive interface screen with built in amplifier and radio for relatively cheap ~$300. Also you can change devices easily if one ever fails or you upgrade.
The downside is that you have the annoying agreements to OK every time you power up as well as the parking brake (can be automatically overridden with a external device). Also the MHL connection can be a little unstable and has been snowing out on me, but i've been using cheap internet adapters. I've ordered a pioneer kit and will be testing it when it arrives.

i lied on the previous post, it does automatically connect if your phone is attached before you start your car. Also the developer released a new beta that works great with my galaxy nexus. still some bugs to work out but definitely usable.

The latest beta has the decks hard buttons controlling the phone, microphone, and the control is barely lagging behind... Until someone builds a decent android powered deck this is definitely the next best thing.

I'd actually put this over a tablet install or native android deck as i've tried both. this allows much more flexability with hardware and most everything you could want is already integrated I.E. (amp, equalizer, radio, hardware buttons etc.) and it's relatively cheap if you compare it with other options.

you must have a newer build than me, haven't had luck with the hardware buttons yet. when you say it controls the microphone you mean you can use the microphone on the deck?

A build that was released a couple days ago added hardware button support. This mornings release added microphone, haven't tested it yet, stuck at work...

How is the transition between the android screen and say the unit's radio or equalizer? Is it easy to go back and forth?

once it's complete it should be as easy as it was with the standard appradio app. just press the hardware home button twice to get back to the home screen, depending on the speed you select it you can get a quick navigation menu at the bottom of the screen for things like screen off, change station, mute, etc.

as far as settings for things like the equalizer you can create a favorite list so they are easier to get too.

That sounds so promising. I have tried multiple times to introduce a tablet setup in my car, but I always end up backing out or removing the installation because of not having a really good way to integrate standard FM radio (for some reason I listen to this more than almost anything for sports talk shows etc). I always left my single din head unit to take care of FM but it just felt incomplete having to constantly change inputs on the head unit to use the radio and then go back to the tablet. This looks to be a much more automated solution.....I hope. The other thing holding me back was phone calling integration with the tablet (tablettalk app is trying to take care of this but its not perfect). By using the actual phone screen, that should take care of that problem...or does the head unit automatically default to the Bluetooth connection and use the head unit interface? Anyway you could try to take a video of things like switching between radio and the phone, bringing up the quick navigation menu, and dialing and receiving phone calls?
