Yes. I am doing this currently only I keep my tab always on. I use Snuko for security so when I timeout my screen I launch the Snuko lock. I do the same when I wake my display up.

ok I have sussed out out to activate the screen lock when the headphone is unplugged (stolen) ,but how can i make the screen go blank(black) when the ignition is turned off without the screen lock as I dont want to to have to tap the code in every time i start the car ,my tablet is a samsung galaxy tab2

How do you have your tab connected? Not sure how you have it connected for ignition events but you should be able to configure a task to timeout the display based on the event.

its conected via a cigerate lights I can time out the screen after 7seconds but I want it instantly

there's a difference between the screen timeout and screen lock. you can toggle the screen off in addition to setting a low screen timeout value, but the only thing to consider is if you have tasker toggle the screen off first and THEN have any events that wake the screen you will end up with a sequence of 'on off on (wait 7 seconds) off' which is kind of silly.
