Galaxy Tab 7in in place of head unit

Hello everyone,

I have a 91' Toyota Supra Turbo and wanted to replace my double din with a 7 inch galaxy tablet to be my radio, music and video player, gps, etc. I'd like some help on figuring out how to go about this I know I'd have to trim off a little bit of the dash trim from behind to help the tablet fit flush but I am more worried about the mounting aspect like how can I build a mount to hold the tablet sturdily in place without being able to see anything after it's all done.
Here is an old picture of my double din head unit, ignore the mess I changed my shifter bushing before I took this picture but people fit in 7 in touchscreen aftermarket head units often in this car with no problems

I also want to use the stock speakers since I don't plan on getting a subwoofer box or anything like that I plan on upgrading the stock speakers.

The slot where your current radio is located would work. I don't like the location as I feel it is too low. As far as getting it work with stock speakers, I see two options:

1) Replace the radio and install a small amplifier to power your speakers or 2) Keep the stock radio and run the tablet output to the Aux input of the radio (if it has that feature).

For a better look and aesthetics, I'd look at doing a custom job. I believe you can order the bezel contain the radio and temperature controls. I'd relocate the temp controls to the lower sections and the tablet to the higher section for better viewing. Just my suggestions.

I would prefer the tablet to be where the AC controls are but obviously it won't fit there without practically changing the dash. Now thing comes to mind about the tablet > amp > speakers idea, how exactly would I connect the speakers to the amp? Are the connections from the speaker like an RCA cable or wires?

It would require modifications that may be outside of your capability. You could ask around at a local car stereo shop to see how much it would cost to fabricate.

To hook the tablet up to the amplifier you'd need a 3.5mm to RCA adapter similar to this one one. Since you have no plans to install a subwoofer and keep with the stock speakers, I'd suggest one of the mini, low-powered amplifiers to drive your speakers. They come in 2-ch and 4 ch variants and are economically priced list this one. The amplifier would require a dedicated 12VDC constant input from the battery, a dedicated ground wire and you'd have to write into the ignition input to switch it on. I'd recommend 10 AWG wire for the amplifier power and ground. To power the tablet you could get an Apple iPad cigarette lighter charger or a 12 to 5 VDC USB charger like this one.

Installation is straight forward, but can be a challenge for a newbie. This forum is a great resource. Go see the Fabrication formum for ideas on the bezel installation. Some of our readers have been very creative in their installations are offer many tips. If I can help in any other way just feel free to fire back.

My car has 6 speakers so would I need a 6 channel amp? I don't think making my own mounts will be that difficult if my idea works out as planned the only problem is finding the brackets in the right size and with the right bends. I appreciate the help very much and will continue looking through this forum for ideas.

Also I plan on having the charging cable wired to the ignition or cigarette lighter so when the ignition is on the tablet is being charged and when I turn the car off I have the tablet automatically go into sleep mode when it's not being charged. I have an idea on how I can mount the tablet I just need to find some clamp like brackets that would grab it from the top and bottom then hide that area with a dash kit or modify a dash kit to fit.

According to Sonic Electronix, you have two sets of front speakers and one set of rear speakers. All appear to be 4" drivers. How are you powering them now? Off the radio?
