Android TV stick with USB touch panel running on Audi A5 3G MMI

While ago I changed my car to Audi A5 sportback with 3G MMI low navigation system. I wanted to get Android running on it, to listen music from Spotify and also play with the Torque app to check acceleration times and so.

For a long time I have been waiting android based device to Audi which can be controlled by touch screen. There are Android devices with DVD player for Symphony or Concert radios, but not for MMI systems. Those are also rather expensive and requires also installation of DVD player into the glove box.

I decided to go with video interface and android TV stick. The only problem was that external touch panels didn't work with Android. Problem was solved just about month ago, when Car-solutions.com released an USB touch screen controller for Android.

Finally I have touch screen controllable Android device running on my car! I have MMI navigation, but navigation apps works on android with external bluetooth GPS.

I installed video interface and rest of the components behind the glove box and Tronsmart T428 Android TV stick into the fuse box on the right side. T428 can be easily removed, if there is need to do firmware upgrades etc.

Here's the list of needed components:
-Video interface, e.g. Video Interface for Audi MMI 3G
-Android TV stick, e.g. Tronsmart T428 Tronsmart T428 Quad Core Mini PC Android 4.2 Rockchip RK3188
-Touch panel, e.g. 6.5" Flexible Touch Screen Panel
-Universal Touch Screen Controller USB from Car-solutions.com
    -HDMI to AV composite converter
    -Bluetooth OBD2 adapter, e.g. Mini ELM327 OBD2 II Bluetooth
    -Cigarette lighter socket
-Car charger with two USB ports to power up android TV stick and HDMI to AV converter
-2x Fuse Tap Piggy Backs to power video interface and cigarette lighter socket
-Audio cable, 3.5mm male to RCA

Unfortunately I don't have pictures of the installation because nothing is visible. Only the av source switch is visible.

Please check my video of using the setup:

It's 400*240, which is bad... I'm not sure can I just change for the 7" screen with 800*480 resolution. 7" screen does have different connector, but I could connect it to the video interface with a new cable. I'm not aware that if anyone has done just a screen swap. I would like to try, but 7" screen+cable costs $400-500 total. I think it's too much just for testing...

Controller is plug and play. No need to install any drivers. It may depend on the Android version, but it was supported on 4.2. something running on T428...

Very interesting the touch screen controller but it has enormous shipping cost!
