Don't know about you, but when I'm in the middle of nowhere with no EVDO service, I'd take iGuidance over google navi any day.

You could get a app with the maps. I did that on my winmo phone. Had the garmin software on there. I am sure you can do the same with Android.

The only thing I can do 100 percent safely well driving with my phone would probably be the google navigation, but music would be a pain in the *** even with my car stand plus the sound quality would be a negative.

I wish google navigation was available for carpcs :/ it kicks ***. only con I have with is it doesn't say your speed, but still has the speak **** and nice POIs. Anyways my phone replaced my old tomtom .

droid x + hdmi cable + Lilliput 669 + realHDMI app would work just fine as a car PC. The only problem is you'd have to use the small (4.3 inch) screen as the touchscreen.

Still sticking to my macmini tho, but soon probably tehered thru the Nexus One instead of the dongle.

we talked about car mode in the carbytes podcast episode 1. It's just a more carpc friendly menu to, like tidder said, non-carpc-friendly apps.

does the droid X support host mode USB? maybe if android has a driver, you could use your lilliput as the touchscreen... Alternatively, you can do the whole terminal mode and boot a simple linux install that just VNCs into the phone, sets up a bluetooth a2dp conntection so sound comes through and run it that way.

I listened to the podcast, and while true, there are new apps coming out all the time which touchscreen-friendly interfaces that can be used with the car mode. Beyond Podcasts has a nice UI with huge buttons (its how i listened to you guys in the car), pandora has something similar. Last.FM's beta can be controlled via voice only. The "Cubed" music app has a larger UI. All of these are only dependent on your phone being in landscape mode. So for the OP's request of music, nav, and phone... all of that can easily be done now.

This is actually exactly what I plan to do. I have a Samsung Captivate and will be installing a 7" lcd on my dash. See this thread: http://www.f150forum.com/f7/has-anyo...upgrade-67384/

My truck has Microsoft Sync and so I can stream audio wireless through bluetooth. I will use that for the audio and the video out functions of the Captivate to display the screen on a 7" on my dash.
