Hmm, I was under the impression the Tab was too big. I have a '03 Protege with a standard double din opening, and have been pricing out and weighing my options for years now. If a double din mount could be made for the tab I would say you have a decent sized market. While most cars no longer have normal double din faceplates, a good chunk of them still have a double din chassis that Metra and others make faceplates for.

Oops, sorry! I meant to say it'll fit in my dash where the double din is because I have extra unused space surrounding the double din, especially horizontally (see attached photo). I'll just have to custom cut the hole for Galaxy Tab in the OEM plate that houses the OEM double din head unit. Thank gawd I have a whole extra OEM head unit dash for my car in case I mess up the cut.

I'm going to test doubleTwist on the Galaxy Tab first to make sure it fullscreens and performs well before diving into this project though.

Yeah I have two OEM radio bezels for my Protege too, in case I decide to cut one up for a Tab or other android fitment. Will be watching this thread to see how it goes.

I found this on the Torque OBD-II software for Android Devices forum and it turns out in the very first picture, somebody installed a Dell Streak in a Smart FourTwo - http://torque-bhp.com/forums/?wpforu...wtopic&t=160.0

With its 5" display and case it looks no bigger than a standard 7" screen. If you get the AV Dock for it, you can send the output to amps.

Seems to me the Galaxy and the Streak are the best two Android tablets available at this moment. Both have 3G (AT&T on the Streak, T-Mobile/AT&T on the Galaxy), GPS (can use Google Maps with Navigation) and Wifi. The Dell can be used with a car dock that puts it automatically into Navigation mode and landscape (Like the Droid, Nexus/Nexus S phones).

I've never really considered the Streak as a tablet (more like a phone without phone functions). At 5" why not just get a full blow Android phone? IMO, the screen size is too close to the size offerings of many Android phones which puts us back in the same boat of small buttons and icons. Either way, it's an option. I'm still wishful for the perfect device for those extra 2 inches.

Maybe, I'm being too picky but just my 2 cents.

You haven't seen the Galaxy Tablet?

The Galaxy is 7" and both the Streak and Galaxy tablets have 3G cell radios and functions has a phone on AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, so I don't know where you got your information from.

You can consider the Streak more of a phone and I would agree, not much bigger than a EVO4 which is 4.3"

I think either would work, you would only loose the function of the rear camera for taking video/pictures.

There's video of a Dell employee using a Steak in his Dodge Ram paired Bluetooth to his Kenwood In-Dash DVD player.

Did you read my prior post? Yes I've heard of the Tab. It's mentioned multiple times in this thread. When I said the Streak is like a phone without actually being a phone, I meant it's like the size of a phone but you can't put it to your head and make a call without being on speaker phone. Would you buy a phone and expect to only communicate that way? It's like the phone functions were an after-thought.

This ViewPad7 by Viewsonic is another 7" tablet option, although it's still a bit too big. It's smaller than the Tab and It's dimensions are 7.06" x 4.33". It's at a lower price point than the Tab and is an approved Google device with the Android market and also has GPS.

Also, Acer is suppose to be coming out with a 7" Android tablet shortly but doesn't appear to be officially launched.

Ya, I don't consider the Streak a tablet either, plus its performance issues worry me. I think developers (and users) will embrace 7" devices over 5" devices as we get closer to the launch of Honeycomb since there's more 7" Android devices on the market.
