I got your message via email.

1- you have heard of people/ dealers making bulk orders

2 - red is wasting yours and Dave's time since he didn't buy

my thoughts are on 1 is I don't care. if bulk orders are the issue it is just more bad planning and overselling by custom gadz.

2 - red almost maybe bought the product and would have been at the end of the line. maybe Dave had the backend system refusing orders. maybe he didn't. but the data on the site was OUTDATED. I would be mad to if I almost bought something marked with a 10 lead time that really is currently 6 weeks. also seeing how difficult it would be to get a refund would make be mad.

with that said, I think he's said his peace and can move on. with that said if he reads elsewhere about custom gadz, he had ever right to point out this situation. I appreciate when someone looks out for me.

so yes, let's stay on topic and talk deliveries and refunds.

Just received my mimics x2 unit from the mailman. Dave came through. Looking forward to installing it soon. Just wanted to let everyone know that he is shipping them out.

Got mine as well! I've got it hooked up to a 12v power source on my workbench for testing at the moment, seems to be working well. I updated the firmware as well, pretty painless.

My one issue so far: It does not appear to auto-connect to the phone! So i have to open the bluetooth settings and re-connect every time i would get into the car. Either i'm missing a step here or that's just not something that it supports. This shouldn't be TOOOO much of an issue since i believe i could write a tasker script to attempt a connection once the phone sees the car's phone BT connection. However auto-connect would be ideal.

Some general notes that weren't mentioned in the guide:
    - The "normal" operation mode shows with a dim red LED on the main mimics board. That light brightens as touch signals come in. (i had thought something was wrong since it was so dim and wasn't mentioned in the pdf)
    - Haven't been able to test the calibration yet since i don't have the app to do so

(sorry for the poor pics, i might do a better set and a video later)

I think i have the lack of auto-connect solved via a tasker script that initiates the connection once i get into the vehicle. Has anyone here got a copy of the android calibration app?

Im curios, and I cant recall if I have asked this before. My install is kind of different. I want to keep the phone permanently in the car, in fact hidden. It already has an HDMI dongle that connects to a VGA adapter and then the screen. Is there a way to just have the BT aspect for the touchscreen part? Because there doesn't seem to be any other way I can find to get a touchscreen working correctly. They just do not make USB drivers, or drivers that can be installed without have to do craziness like recompiling the Android build, etc.

On the older revision, when the car turns on, the MimicsX2 bluetooth auto-connects with the phone and activates the the X2 app which essentially acts as a driver to calibrate the touchscreen to your phone. The Mimics X2 is a bluetooth mouse interfaced with your phone.

Not quite sure why you'd want to permanently install the phone into the car. You'd have to wait for the device to power up, sync if you have a data plan for the device, and you wouldn't even be able to take the phone call with you. I would just install a Nexus 7 in that case. In short, I'm curious why you'd want to do that

I just upgraded to the Nexus 4, so I have a spare Galaxy Nexus laying around. I think it would be easier to upgrade in the future, so if I want to go with a more powerful device, but not upgrade the screen, which will be permanently embedded into the car. So say for example I decide to upgrade to the future Nexus phone (which I will), I can just toss the Galaxy Nexus and put the Nexus 4 in its place. Essentially the phone aspect will be retired and it would link to my Nexus 4 for calls, etc.

And why not just use the Nexus 4 now so you get the entire experience? I think all you'd need is a dock to connect your phone to the car.
