Yeah that is what I was thinking.. unless someone ported the N7 2012 UBS-ROM to Kitkat

    eric,

That did it.. I did not even try it on Timur's ROM yet. I am working on using my App Radio 2 and an Android Stick, here is a couple shot of your FE on it..

    Couple things

    1) temperature does not change C to F ( not sure if you changed it)
    2) background image gets squished and distorted.. not sure if that is by design or not

Tell me which Arduino would be better to get and I will buy it and donate if you will add some of the basic hardware control (for temperature and some GPIO) Also will all your GPIO going to be controlled just through the app? and I assume I cannot put a Widget on one of the buttons can I?

Impressive work.. I am liking it

    Edit:

Oh yeah does the music work? if so what app is it? or do I need to link a program to your FE?

Here are my thoughts on custom roms. I love them. But not for everywhere. Timur's USB rom was/is great. But it was abandoned. That's the part I don't like for a project where I want continued support. If I can do everything I want stock, I will usually stick to stock. Also the reason I want my hardware to work via AOA, it's supported. Again, thinking long term here.
I will look into the ROM linked on the XDA site, you never know, I may end up using it.

-=Jeff=- Thanks for the screen shots, that looks awesome. As for your questions. The Metric/Imperial has not been fixed yet. Been busy this week, and the only thing I've managed to fix was the bug stopping you. It will be done soon, I need to do a whole weather, metric/imperial overhaul. When I first started coding this I never though anybody would use it
Background image is pretty new, I know it needs work, and if it's getting distorted I will work on that. It was just kinda thrown together with input from others.

As for the Arduino, I think the best thing at the moment is to get an Uno or clone. That way I can upgrade the firmware on it automatically. You won't have to do anything.
Do you have any specific requests for GPIO? Or is something like setting a button to toggle pin 1 on/off good enough? That's what I'm thinking to start, but it will surely grow as users needs grow, myself included.

Music is built in. Once you have music on your device it's read from the built in library. Again, something that needs fixing is having my app auto scan. Currently you'll have to update the database using another app, like Google Play Music or Rescan Media.

My next big plan is to include Spotify support. The reason I chose Spotify for now, is for the media background image bluc requested earlier on. Spotify gives me the most usable API with image sizes I need. After that I'd like to add Pandora and any others people want. It's difficult though because many of them aren't available in Canada.

    Eric,

I would like the GPIO to control a couple of relays (one for my ALDL connection since it is hard wired) one for my power antenna and one for my amplifiers.. so 3 at the moment

It would be awesome if I could access them with tasker. for example launcher HD tuner, it flips the Output on for the antenna ( so these would be latched) .. when I close the HDTuner then the tasker would flip that output off

On other potential issue.. Lydia is shown twice in my apps drawer, one works, one says it crashed. I saw 2 yesterday on my tablet but one said the program did not exist, the other worked.. just something else for you to look at

As for the metric/imperial that is cool that you have not done it I could not remember if you corrected that yet or not.

I know you said you were using the DUE board at one point.. I would almost be willing to go that route if the code would work..
Digital I/O Pins 54 (of which 12 provide PWM output)
    Analog Input Pins 12
    Analog Outputs Pins 2 (DAC)

This gives me more options than the Uno:
Digital I/O Pins 14 (of which 6 provide PWM output)
    Analog Input Pins 6

but if you never planning on support all of that from a general IO standpoint then I can go with the Uno..

I don't think I NEED l all those since all I am looking to use is 3 at the moment..

    THANKS

    EDIT.. what about Leonardo:
    Digital I/O Pins 20
    PWM Channels 7
    Analog Input Channels 12

Yeah I love custom roms but I don't like being stuck on a custom rom with no updates. Right now I'm using CM11 which has been great and best of all it supports my DAC. Startup and shutdown I can handle with an arduino and i've removed the battery in my Nexus 7 and replaced it with a 3.8 volt voltage regulator which is connected to constant 12 volts. I wish I could use AOA but I need host mode to run my DAC, maybe there is a way but I haven't seen anything to tell me otherwise. I'm just about ready to install my Nexus in the truck at which point I'll be able to help out more with regards to suggestions and "real world" testing.

You could expand the in/outs of the uno with a i/0 expander as well if you need more connections.

Did not know that.. still learning about Arduino.. Guess I could handle the UNO..

Tell me more about your 3.8v modification as I would like to remove the battery on my nexus in favor of a power supply running low current.

I am at an impasse, I like the tablet set-up I have the resolution etc but the audio has a few bits that I am not too keen on, there is some interesting sounds coming through my speakers with nothing on, plus with my HDTuner i don't have audio level control of it in the tablet. so I have an external Volume and balance which leaves me with no EQ settings. The install is cool though, it was a fun project

My other thought is Android Stick with App Radio 2.. it gives me access to my phone for hands free, I can actually plug in my old iPod for songs if I desire and I still have Android for my other features. the android connects tot he App Radio with a HDMI cable for audio and video.. Bluetooth commands are done between the stick and app radio using AppRadioUnchained.. works pretty well but was not at the maturity it is now when I needed something.

the Stick I have has issues with rebooting (I think) and I am not sure how much current it will draw just sitting idle. I am thinking of using Tasker to detect Bluetooth connection to power down the Stick, but that may not work as when I don't have phone audio connected to the stick, the touches still work but it does not show to be connected. anyway i found something to switch to the HD Tuner Audio into the HDMI connection.

Here is a picture of my current install

Found a 4, 8 and 16 channel relay board for arduino.

I could get an uno and the 8 relay card and be all good for now

Controlling relays is easy. I want to make it so you hook it up, and in software configure the pin for what relay does what, and it's done.
As far as taker support, that's something I've thought of, but really never looked into. If it happens, it won't be soon. I'll have to make it so the things you want done are configurable in app.

The double app drawer issue, maybe an uninstall and reinstall? Or just leave it for now. If you do your configs will be lost. Maybe I'll look into adding a backup/restore feature later on.

Ok, for the Arduino issue. Due is what I'm using now. It ONLY works in Android Accessory Mode. If you have other USB accessories hooked up, the Due WILL NOT work for you. It also requires manual firmware upgrading.
The Uno requires a special driver. I see it has been updated from last time I used it. I will have to test to ensure it works as required. Last time I tried it only FTDI based boards would work, the Due is NOT FTDI based. Older Duemilanove have a FTDI chip built in, but to be an "Uno" board it needs a bootloader upgrade. And you need a special programmer for that.
Yun is another story all together, not going to happen any time soon.

that_kid. Once I update the code to support the Uno boards, you will be able to use my firmware if you like. It will work with your setup. If you want it, somewhere in the settings will be an "upgrade firmware" button, click that and it will overwrite your code on the Arduino.

An expander could in theory be used, but I would have to plan for it in the Android software, or else you would have to write all your own Arduino code. Not impossible, but not immediately available.

At the end of the day, I'm hoping to be a one stop shop for all your needs. I don't want reliance on external sources if I can avoid it. But also support external things if wanted/needed by others.
I'm working on radio, bluetooth phone, power stuff, all the goodies, but it's slow with only me coding.

I thank you all for your input and reporting issues and requests, it really helps.

The Double app drawer I will leave for now.. not the end of the world.. Cool so it sounds like UNO then. I have 2 Serial connections.. ALDL and HDTUNER so I will check out the Uno and see what is available
