One more of those things "on the list" lol. I with I had 5 of me for this project

This was a major factor in me choosing an odroid board rather than use my nexus tab then I can use an lcd rather than built in display. Bought my car the other day so hopefully not to much longer till I can get rest of my stuff. Was hoping to use a head unit as well but unless I can think of a way to mount the head unit I don't think im going to have room.

Thanks for the board info Eric. I think I will buy a redboard. Good price and a good start for me

    Eric,

quick question, are you relying on the USB-Serial to be int he kernel or will it be part of the package on the install? Reason I ask is I ran into an issue where I want to use my App Radio with an HD Tuner, but the Tuner needs Serial function that the Android Stick does not have in the kernel. if I go the Android PC route there will be Serial driver in the kernel but if the driver is added to the apk it should work

I do believe it is 100% in user space and not required to have any kernel modules. I include the driver in the apk.

An update on the actual hardware. I've got the Redboard successfully talking with the Android device. I need to write the firmware for it though. Once that is done then I can start on the in app configuring of the ports.

Also, I've come up with a new name.... Autosense. So I've also been switching all code from "lydia" to "Autosense"... that's a much bigger job than I thought.

Awesome.. Great to see this moving along.. I have not ordered the redboard just yet, Still torn between using my N7 or my App Radio 2/ Android Stick.

I also need to try and remove the N7 battery and run off of a regulated voltage if that works then I will probably keep the N7.. I just need to find a better FM radio solution.

I am using the Directed HD tuner with Mitch's cable but the audio is basically completely separate from the tablet so I have no adjustments other than the external volume I added

I have SDR USB tuner but I don't like the interface, SO I need to figure out something for that

Radio is another one of those issues I've working on.
My current plan it to use external hardware, such as the monkeyboard or what I currently have Spark Fun FM Tuner. The main issue I see is the actual audio. It will need to be mixed external from the tablet. I have an idea on how to build one and have it be compatible, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

SDR is another path I could take, but haven't looked into it very much yet.
More things on the very long list to do.

Oh I know you have a long list.. I don't expect you to do it all, some of my comments are more of a sounding board and other that read them in here might have suggestions

for me, I could just use my app radio, it solves the Phone and tuner issue, but gives me 2 OS systems to deal with, which is fine, but not sure it is ideal.

The SDR Radio option sends audio directly through Android, which makes life a bit easier, but I just don't care for any of the interfaces.. the HDTuner app I have I like the interface and what is offers but it would be nice if it had more then 5 presets.

it is funny I seem to find myself listen to the radio more than anything else so I keep thinking why do I need the tablet why do I need all the functionality.. Maybe the App Radio is the better solution for my Corvette since I don't drive it everyday. I could have the Android functionality with the Stick as the secondary to the app radio, this allows use for iPod and iPhone if I ever needed.. on the android side I am mainly using it for Maps, and my Datalogger for the car.. right now I mostly use the Tuner section anyway..

    (sorry getting off track again)

But I think to me it really boils down to a nice solution overall.. you have that with your Front end, Arduino control and I think if you did SDR Radio with RDS, I would be all for it.. everything is then essentially at the tablet which eliminates external control hardware unless it is wanted (like That kid is doing..)

I'm also using a directed HD tuner in my setup. I'm able to bring the audio from the HD radio into the system via my minidsp board. The audio from the tablet comes into the minidsp via optical cable but the unit also has 2 analog ins which I use to bring the HD radio in. Volume control is already done via the minidsp so the biggest hurdle for my setup is getting Autosense to send a control signal to the arduino when the radio is selected and switch the inputs on the minidsp from digital to analog. Actually I don't really need to switch it as the signals can be mixed, as I was sitting here typing this I thought about the fact that I'd still need the tablet audio for gps navigation. Then again I planned on using a bluetooth module to play the part of a headset connected to the tablet that way I can send that audio to the center channel speaker in my car.

I got my new dc-dc module in the other day and I changed around how it connects to the tablet. Originally I omitted the circuit board from the battery along with the battery and went right to the positive and negative inputs. While this works without issue, the table had no idea what to put for the battery status. This left me with an exclamation mark in the battery symbol. So I included the circuit board from the battery which I then discovered is i2c and now my tablet reads 100% for the battery level. Now that I know the data from the battery board is i2c I want to find a way to read/imitate that data.

This is excellent news. I ran into a bit of a bump when evaluating using the redboard. I have some i2c things on the buss which are 3.3 volt tolerant but not 5 volt tolerant. I need to seed if there's a way to get it all working with a redboard which provides 5 volts to the i2c bus.
