Final Ipad install in my 2008 Pontiac G8 GT

Wow. Way to go Nate. I'd love to integrate mine like that but I take it the iPad every where and would miss it to much. And I'd worry about it getting ripped off when I'm parked in Detroit, well anywhere really.

No heat issues yet but this car rarely sits outside my garage. I live in the desert so the true test is coming very soon.

I made the new mount so that it is easy to remove if need be. Thank God for industrial strength velcro. My dream is an app that works like backgrounder but now that the screen is larger, you could call it "foregrounder" and divide the screen into quadrants. For example you could have GPS displayed in one "box", Ipod in the next, OBDII diags in the third and so on. Double tap the box you want to go full screen to toggle in and out to make adjustments or interact with. It seams like a very simple idea that would be awesome. Someone please make that happen!!!

I think the ipad does work well in the car, although I did have an overheating warning that I am fixing and to solve another problem that you may have already seen, I am going to tweak the connector so that it will automatically turn on when I turn the ignition and turn off and close running programs when I kill it.

^^^ cool setup. You should open a new thread and post more details on how you did it. How do you connect the sound?

I'd be interested on how you could turn it off with the ignition, didn't know that was possible.

I will as soon as I finish the install... I'm waiting on some connectors that I can modify so I can finish up. For now, I have a Kenwood head unit with Bluetooth from the iPad. I plan on using the aux input for direct sound while the iPad is being charged. One of the important parts of the install is the ability to easily remove the iPad, so as you can see, it easily slides in and out of the dash...

I have headrest monitors, so another step I have to take is get video out of the dock connector which I will modify so that I can have a switch to turn video out in and off.

I got the VGA cable for my iPad for use with Keynote presentations at work. It does that just fine but pretty much only plays video and Keynote stuff out to VGA. It doesn't just mirror the existing display.

I'll download it later and see it crashes the pad. I'm not sure there's much use for it any more being that this screen is plenty big and useful.

Although my car setup charges the iPad and handles the audio I still have my 7" monitor that I can view ipod movies through so if you didn't have the charging abillity it might be nice to turn tvout on and run the gps through the external screen to concerve some battery. That's the only thing I can think of it being useful for.

TVout with 3rd party apps is working, the problem I have is that when using safari or youtube videos, it won't display on the iPad and will only do video out. I am hoping someone sets up a toggle in SBSettings to turn native TVout off...
