imo, the wireless storage is exactly what complicates it...

while i am against the ipad for my own install because of its limitations, i think it is a great bling-factor device for car audio installers-- there isn't much work required in putting one in(really, just dash fabrication/mount, connecting the audio to amps, and maybe a power adapter...), and, even better, you can hand it to a idiot, and they really cant screw it up like they can with a carputer...

If you look 10 years down the line, you wont' need USB or storage anymore. I think thats why apple does it. They slowly do away with things that they think people won't use anymore. Like how they are single handling killing flash for video.

In the future, we won't need wired keyboards or mice, and we wont need physical storage either. The trend is heading towards the cloud. So your mass storage device problem, is only a problem right now.

I'll get in touch with him and see what I can do. I believe they're doing it in the same general fashion as the tacoma.

So Apple's strategy is to develop products whose use is limited until 10 yrs later? Wonder what they will be trying to phase out 10 yrs from now.

You know you're misinterpreting it, right?

Apple is trying to guide technology. You don't guide it by waiting until it's the standard and then release a product. Just look at an app like Air Video or StreamToMe... you're streaming everything with a variable bit rate from a server/computer. Replace your home computer with the cloud and you have 5 years from now. Until then, Apple is pointing us in that direction.

You don't have to go that direction, and that is one of the biggest knocks against Apple. Windows/Linux you're free to do whatever you want. Apple you're free, so long as you're following in Apple's footsteps.

Unless they are good at hiding the truth, they are pretty good at leading technology. They mass produce a PC to kick off the Personal computer industry.

They mass produce and iPod to make portable hdd music standard

they mass produce a touchscreen smart phone that every one and their mother produces now.

Apple seems to lead the way and thats because they think 5 years from now.

OMG, why do you say these things. USB is only getting faster, USB 3 is sure to make people become more interested. I use USB external drives at home, we use them heavily at work, most of my friends prefer laptops and use external drives, etc.

As far as the flash thing, I am not sure about that. Alot of sites that are slowly moving away from flash are strictly doing it because Apple wants them to because of certain devices (iPhone, iPad, not sure if other devices from Apple dont use flash). Once these devices arent all the rage anymore, i bet people will use flash heavily again. Youtube uses it, .flv is very easy to implement and share streams, video, etc.

Apple has maybe set trends in the past to push people a certain way, but usually they do it on the down low. This time its obvious they are trying to kill flash and i have a feeling it will push back and blow what every solution Apple is trying to get everyone on, out of the water.

I had a discussion with my little brother, he is a heavy Apple user and has everything Apple, except the iPad because he says he doesnt need the screen size and has his iPhone. While I was using his iPhone (I am so hooked on Loopt Mix) I mention that its so retarded that Apple holds back its tech. His remark was well they are coming out with OS 4 which gives us multitasking. So my answer was, why didnt they come out with it in OS 1. He of course had no answer. Now mind you, Apple doesnt do this with other products (or at least I think) except the iPhone/Touch/iPad. Why because the devices are so popular and they want to hold people by the balls. That right there is messed up.

With certain things they have led people. yes the iPod was the $h!+, but now.... ehhhh I think its dying out now.

I am not sure about that toiuchscreen phone idea.... I have always had a pocket PC phone and they were out before the iPhone. The only thing the iPhone did was cause companies to make them look and work better.

Other then that what more has it done?

, why didnt they come out with it in OS 1.
Isn't it possible they didn't figure out a way to do back in 2007? Or moreover that they knew it would delay launch by 2 years to develop those apis?

software is incremental, you know that. And lets say they could do it in OS 1, in business, its always smart not give the customers everything at once. Thats how you make more money, keep them coming back for more. I know some people don't like that, but thats how the world works.

I have a mess of wires everywhere i go. Maybe not in the next 5 years, but eventually, wires will not be part of the computer experience. (IE. wired USB DEATH)

I really dont see that happening.... I dont know, maybe 10 years, but 5, no way..... There is just so much large volume information that is used on USB drives now a days. Also it isnt good as far as pricing. Maybe in 5 years it will be a bit cheaper, but I dont think enough to kill USB. Plus even if they do there are going to be so many issues with cross talk, and getting it all working right. I mean the standard home has about 6 USB devices in general? Now you add that up house by house, I see issues happening. Also everyone will have to come up with a universal language. Also wireless isnt 100% secure no matter what anyone says.
