In terms of, "I think it's a viable solution for a lot of people," yes, I'm pro iPad.

In terms of, "I'll definitely be replacing my carPC with an iPad," no, I'm not that.

... it's a technology that we can't ignore in this forum, and I'd really like to see it developed into a more full fledged solution. We've listed out a lot of its shortcomings and, depending on what developers can come up with, does have a lot of potential. (along w/ other tablets)

In a word....NO! For exactly those reasons.

In order to use an ipad as a carPC you would need to hack up your dash, various ipod accessories (to integrate power/audio, etc) and possibly even construct some type of mount to keep it secure while still allowing it to be removed (or prevent it from being stolen).

That is far from basic or easy!!


As a side note:
does mp3car value being in business? You guys seem to be very pro every potential carPC replacement that comes along. I've seen more how to use an ipod in your dash type videos then carPC basics.

Just to let you know, the iPad dock will pretty much do everything you're needing for audio/power. The mounting solutions are coming, that's for sure.

Do you want them to ignore the iPad? I'd be concerned if they didn't at least give it a thorough review.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, for every point you try to make optikelfx, people throw 2 more to prove why it shouldn't be in the car. justchat brought up a good point. It will need modification of the dash, so it isn't 100% basic install. I just saw the accessories part, that is so true. Also with the iPad you have to pick and choose which ones you want. With a PC you can have whatever you want. I think I'm up to 30 devices on my install!

I dont say ignore the iPad, but dont make it seem like its a gift from the Car PC god either. That is what the Apple fan boys are doing and I guess thats why people that see it isnt really all that, are so defensive and bashing the cr@p out of it.

Ohhhh, a Mac vs. PC fight.

I've used basically every iteration of Windows, and a few years back I switched to Mac. Thank Darwin/God/Etc that I did. Mac OS is so vastly superior to that piece of garbage called Windows. I almost believe that Mac users are enlightened.

I would just like to ask why some on this forum always has to call the users of Apple products fanboys. Do the Apple users call anyone who uses Microsoft products Windows fanboys why does it always have to be this way, I used microsoft products for years and I always would bad mouth Apple's And Mac's until I was given my first PowerMac as a present, the experience was night and day I found that in many ways Mac's and Osx were superior to the Windows Os.

On the last windows machine I had, even though I had antivirus software on my system at Least once a month I was having to get rid of a virus at least 10 times a month the system was freezing at least 2 times a month I was getting the dreaded bluescreen of death.

I am not in anyway saying Mac's are supercomputers but I can say as a Windows pc user since 1988 ( in high School ) until December of 2008 I find the Powermac that my eldest daughter gave me for Christmas is the best computer that I have used to date I will never ever go back to Windows for any reason, there is a reason why Apple is gaining market share and consumers are purshasing Mac's after being pc users for years they have found once they try it and get used to it, it is a way better user experience.

Let's take the Ipod and Iphone for example, when the Ipod hit the street there were plenty of hand held media players out but the consumer said the Ipod was better, you can't debate this fact sales don't lie, when the Iphone hit the street Nokia, Palm and Windows mobile were already on the street, But the consumer said I want this phone. The Ceo of Microsoft even laughed at the Iphone saying " No one is going to pay $500 dollars for a phone mark my words Microsoft offers a better user experience" well 3 years later and millions of consumers have proven his comment to be idiotic and stupid for Microsoft to laugh at this phone.

You can say about Apple what you want yes they lock down there products yes they are expensive but what I would expect at least from the members of this forum would be a little respect for a persons choice of what they buy, calling a person a fanboy is really getting tired, it sounds like there's a lot of jealousy because lately everything Apple is putting out is selling like gold, I don't see the lines when Microsoft comes out with a phone or new computer the lines are there because the consumer respects the products they respect the quality of Apple's products and they know that they won't have to spend all of there spare time doing is reinstalling there Os because it has crapped out on them.

I can understand you voicing your opinion about the products but don't hate on it's customers, Apple users could say the same thing about Windows fanboys why stick with a product that you have to reinstall several times because it doesn't run stable but Apple users don't do that they just say if you like Windows and those problems than ok, but to keep calling Apple Mac's users fanboys is like I said getting tired. Just my 2 cents
