this is some excellent feedback! i'm going to be posting some artwork of the iPad application some time this week.
I posted this in the ICE3 thread, but this seems like a good time to re-run it:
I'd like a front end that would work similarly to Front Row, only using the touch screen.
Make it use my iTunes library (since Home Share can now automatically sync my purchases) and properly render the character substitutions iTunes makes in the file system.
Have all the music controls on the Music page so I don't have to tap twice to find them.
Make the music controls mimic the functionality of an iPod or iTunes button presses. ICE3 needlessly deviates from iPod/iTunes (and for that matter, most other players) conventions.
Have it properly parse the iTunes library for Music, Movies and TV shows. The last iTunes update broke ICE3, which must have hard-coded the Movies path.
For album art, have it use either or both a JPG in the folder or in the MP3 metadata.
For longer term I would like to embed Garmin Mobile PC in the front end.
I would like to have an OBD II setup that allows me to select parameters to display and to calculate things like instantaneous and average fuel MPG.
What I don't want is the complexity of other front ends like Road Runner or Centrafuse. Make the screens immediately obvious how to navigate and control functions. I loved the UI simplicity and straightforward design of Neon Boombox, but the dev quit on it before all the bugs were killed and I couldn't keep using it.
I would enthusiastically volunteer to Beta test your front end. Good luck on your efforts and I sincerely hope they bear more fruit than AMP Car FrontEnd, Neon BoomBox and ICE3 which have all withered due to neglect of the original developers.
Any day is a good day for golf.
Mazdaspeed6 Carputer Progress: Gone
(Check Speedy's Install)
Speedy was traded for a 2004 350z - Install complete except for permanent screen installation.

This thing has seemingly rejuvenated some within the maccar community; that's awesome!
Bugbyte was on-the-money about an iPad app. Not only would it seriously contend with Garmin/TomTom's stuff, but if successful (key words), it would produce serious profit...
(sighing)
But us Mac Mini/MacBook diehards still want our app!
Like others, I would like to beta test a Mac FE, thanks for the support!
Phil
i have updated the first post with new specs and information
keen to see some pix, im in Sydney Australia, so keen to test, although no ipak or mac, DOH! Would this not be ported over to Windoz
Congrats bluehawk you are going to be a hero for some of the forum members on here that have purchased a Ipad and use it as their carputer.
Some on this forum have laughed at the Ipad beeing used as a carputer I have commented in several post that all was needed was a frontend app for the Ipad to make it in car complete but some said that would take way to long so to here that you are moving this along this quickly is music to our ears now I can make my Ipad purchase in the next few weeks thanx to your good work.
So do you have an eta for the Ipad app I know that this is being impatient but it would shut a whole lot of people up around here about the Ipad.
