I've taken all of your guys advice and I'm working hard on making the music interface as functional as I can make it. I'm working with incorporating swipes for controls and when I'm done with that, I will be working on voice control. When I get a little bit further, I will record a little testing to show you guys.

+1 for voice control! Right now, I've enable voice control on my jailbroken iPad and it allows you to control music but nothing else. If you have a way to do stuff like control the dimmer or move to another screen on the FE, that would be totally awesome.

I've always wanted a system in my car that was voice controlled, but it just didn't seem feasible at the time.

Alright, so I've been working hard the past night or two with the media player and I'm currently working on the library list. Lets just say, they didn't want to make it easy to get a library list like the iPad iPod Library. It wants to use the iPhone/iPod Touch iPod Library view, where you have all the options at the bottom... but they don't work on the iPad. So I'm building a custom library screen.

Just so you guys are aware, a co-worker of mine came across my post here, and offered to do the graphics for the app. He is known for his interface building for handheld devices for one of our clients that is a billion dollar bio-tech company.

Before I get to far into building the custom itunes library, it looks like 4.2 may have the updated Library API so it may make it easier.

I'm switching to gesture programming for now, until I get the SDK installed and check it out for myself.

This would be a killer app if you pull it off :-) I have no idea how Id get the dash real estate to fit an Ipad in my vehicle, but Id sacrifice a center console bezel to try if this works out Id sacrifice the system I have installed now, which works great for me but has no full time web connectivity.

Dont see much talk about Sirius/XM but IMO that is a necessary feature. Its a given that you'll be able to get someones library to play however you want it, but sometimes its nice to just let the stations in your favorites play whatever, the random factor.

As long as there is an easy gesture to switch to the next station you have identified as a favorite (rolling around to the first when you get to the last one) and a way to easily key in a direct station number to go to one that isnt in your favorites, that would be good for me.

The Nav screen is what Id probably leave up most of the time and with the screen real estate available on an Ipad should take up most of the screen with whatever audio module you happen to be using at the time (library/XM/Sirius/Web) in the bottom horizontal quarter.

Videos and web browsing are great, just not as critical in either their need to always be accessible or accessed while driving.

Nice clean interface with as few (and no small) buttons as possible that shows mainly NAV position/map and whatever music/XM you want is what Id aim for to start. Skinned to be as visible as possible during the day and dimmed at night (Ipad would really light up the interior at nite).

I guess the Sirius/XM functionality is dependant on the connection hardware spoken of earlier in the topic. Hope that gets worked out, XM is probably what I listen to most in the car.

So glad to see someone working on this.
PDP1170/TRS80/Atari800XL/Amiga500/286/486/P2/P4/C2D/i7 still a newb (but an old newb, been doing this a while) working my way up to "Complete Newb"

I think we could benefit from a team effort here. If he's working the app someone should work in the sheeva plug. Xm is a great start. Basically you would get the sheeva plug to read the Xm radio data and audio. Then when the app is ready it could be built to accept that data and audio from the sheeva plug.

I agree, but I would also like to get my hands on a sheeva plug so that I can start the development of the connection between the ipad and the sheeva plug.
