You definitely need to look at leechtunes... It has a really good interface for playlist and gestures as well as customizing the gestures as you want them. The new update works perfectly and I actually use it more than the iPod app.

Also, I think it would be a really good idea to create a tweak that can be added to the settings app so that when turned on the iPad will see a charge and automatically turn on and unlock the iPad showing where you left off and when no charge, it will lock the iPad and pause the music if it is playing. Now with iOS 4.2 this can pause music on YouTube videos, pandora, video app or any other media player including your front end.

With this tweak, a user will be able to turn the car on and the iPad will auto unlock and when turning it off it will pause media and lock. These options definitely need to be universal for any car install.

I've been looking all over the place and have gotten part of the features, but not as seamless as one app devoted to this setup that you could make.

I will definitely look into the leechtunes way of handling gestures.

I can make it start and stop music when the ipad is unplugged or plugged back in, but as far as making it unlock and lock itself, that isn't possible unless you use a private API which Apple will reject. If I can find one that isn't private, I will definitely look into it, but from my initial search, that specific feature isn't one that I can implement.

For the lock and unlock, couldn't you set it to work off the charging status. So when the status changes to charging it will unlock the iPad. And when the status changes from charging to not charging it will lock.

Not with the current API's that are available from Apple. I'm only able to tell the device to not lock the screen by turning off the idle status flag. I know that Apple does do the unlocking, because when I'm developing, my device will be locked and when building to my device it unlocks. I might be able to accomplish this with a sheeva plug hooked up.

The thing is, when the lock screen is enabled on the device, you aren't technically in the app anymore. It would require a command from the kernel, or from a computer sending it a command. I'm thinking I'll watch the USB data sent from my computer to the device and see if I can determine how they do it.

maybe you could get with the dev of pluggedin and see how he got the lock and unlock thing to work and maybe incorporate it into the app.

as far as the interface goes take a look at an app called streamtome its got some pretty cool features, for me it would be the perfect media app if it had gesture controls

If your talking about the pluggedin app on cydia, they are using a private API, which wouldn't be allowed on the app store. I'll mess around and see if I can find a way to do it. I will check out streamtome.

I'm afraid I disagree. I'm not interested in chasing the jailbreak cycle. Much prefer a normal App Store app. Please do make a lite version so we can try before we buy.
Any day is a good day for golf.

Dont get me wrong I would rather have it as a normal app but if the features we all want aren't possible without having it jail broken then I would be just fine with it having to be jail broken

I love it. We're already up to 3 different versions of the app for probably ten people in the world who are interested in it kidding
