    Any developers out there?

I just want to know if there is any possibility that someone with programming skills could create a quick tweak for the iPad. I have been looking for a while now for an app that will pause music and lock the screen when it senses no charge. So the goal would be that when I turn off my Truck, it will pause the music if it's playing and lock the screen. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. This is the only thing left to truly have a complete replacement in the truck...

You'd have to slide to unlock it when you start your Truck again.

That's a feature that would have to be built into the media player of choice.

I wrote a similar application for Windows- and laptop-based systems a while back -- when the laptop's battery stops charging, it puts all accessible monitors to sleep and pauses audio, waits five minutes, and puts the laptop to sleep if not woken within the five minutes.

Writing both an Android and iOS version had been on my list, but writing my frontend and other projects have unfortunately taken up too much time. I'll be sure to let you know if I'm able to get to it soon.

Edit: In response to BAC5point2.. that's a good point. Personally, I wouldn't mind having to slide to unlock when I turned the vehicle back on. As for needing to be part of the media player, it depends. I have done only a very limited amount of iOS work, but if you could simulate the removal of headphones from the headphone jack on the iPad, media players will sometimes (either by default or via settings) respond to that by pausing the current media.

Sliding to unlock is not a problem. Currently, when I start the truck, it automatically turns on for me to unlock.

With the new iOS having multitasking, I don't need to add the feature to only one app. It would be available on all music or video apps that utilize multitasking.

I want to try and get work done on it, but no promises. My list of projects is long... and my frontend and IBUS work is just getting started. (Seems like it always is...)

As for my idea of making existing media players "think" you've unplugged headphones.. I'm not so sure on that. I'm fairly sure it's possible with a jailbroken device, but I'm not so sure about its viability on a standard iOS device.

My iPad is jailbroken... My thought would be to place a toggle in the settings app to turn on/off this functionality. When on, it would only apply when the charging status goes from charging to not charging and it would first see if music is playing in order to pause it, then it would lock the screen. This way if I unlock it, everything would work as normal. So it would first check to see if it is currently charging before setting any actions into play...

Here's an idea pertaining to your idea on the unplugged headphones: If the jack is inserted, the tip of the jack is contacting +5v. The dock connector's audio output can sense if the audio connector is inserted by sensing a +5v so if there is no +5v it will think it has been disconnected and pause all media. So if there is a way to trick it into thinking the +5v is applied or removed, that could work. Or another option when looking at the layout of the pin connecter you get this information: Pin 21 is the Accessory Indicator/Serial enable pin. 1MOhm - Belkin auto adaptor, iPod shuts down automatically when power disconnected Connecting pin 21 to ground with a 1MOhm resistor does stop the ipod when power (i.e. Firewire-12V) is cut. Looks to be that when this pin is grounded it closes a switch so that on loss of power the Ipod shuts off. Dock has the same Resistor. Here's the link: http://pinouts.ru/PortableDevices/ipod_pinout.shtml

But tricking it to think it's been disconnected seems like the easier way to do it unless you can actually sense if the music is playing sense on the new iOS it does have the play icon on the status bar when something is playing and just send the pause command. Similar to what the Activator app does, you can set different gestures to pause/play the music.

Currently, I am using the Activator app to get by. I set it up to pause/play music by double tapping the status bar and to lock the screen by swiping down. But an app that does all that for me off the charge status without any gestures would be ideal.
