It would, but I don't know any programming stuff and I don't want to spend extra money and I don't want to have to hide an extra box.

I got the breakout board and I started the soldering job today. Still need to figure out the program side of things though...

Got the cable built and tested. Couldn't figure out how to avoid the "Not Charging" message though... The serial interface works and the iPad does trickle charge... ( ) Now I just need to connect the XMPCR to my iPad and get some software going. YouTube video and pix to follow after I have had some sleep...

    Video of test

You have to view it in 1080 if you want to read the text. Sorry. I'll remember that for next time.

Next video. I have the XMPCR hooked into the iPad through the TTL lines. iPad's RX connected to the XMPCR's TX, and iPad's TX to XMPCR's RX. All I get is gibberish...

Ok, I'm close to giving up on this. I have a screen-less Dell laptop that I could use in place of a Sheeva, plus it has a good battery on it. What do I need to do to make it do like Bugbyte was suggesting I do with the Sheeva?

Does the XMPCR use the USB for audio? If so, it's probably better to use Windows for this.

Basically, you want to have an app that will send the appropriate commands to the XM driver when you contact it. I was thinking that with the Sheeva a web server would serve up a page to the browser with buttons on it. PHP or something similar would send the commands to the driver. You would build a web page with buttons that trigger the commands.

No, the audio is a line out from the XMPCR. Since the Sheeva is $100, and I don't know PHP, I was thinking I could use this old laptop to control the XMPCR through my iPad.

I'll trade you a sheeva for your iPad.
