Thread: Control XMPCR/XMDirect with iPad?

Back to the original issue where you were getting gibberish - are you sure it was gibberish? You know that in order to turn on the XM device, you have to send it a very specific byte string via the serial port, right? I couldn't tell from the video whether you were doing that or not.

I sent the right command, but I realised that it was because I had it plugged into the computer. I also realised that I can't control the internal DAC the way I have it hooked up. So it looks like I'll be using a "server"-type setup after all...

I kind of wondered that, but figured maybe you knew something I didn't.

When you look at something like RR, they use buttons that tell a plugin to send the right command. A server type setup would work the same - a script is activated by a web page and sends the right command.

The java version of the XM program is probably what you want to use unless you have a good one for Windows.

Well, I found a command-line program to run the XMPCR. All I have to do is telnet in and issue "'C:\XMPCR' on" and "'C:\XMPCR' [channel number]" and it will go to whatever channel. I do have that Java app for Windows. How would I set it up? I can reformat to Linux if I have to. I know nothing about PHP or CGI. I barely know HTML...

I got it! I found an old Windows app called sxRecorder. I had to do a little hacking to get it to work fully(firewall exceptions and the like), but it works on my test computer. There is a a 10-20 second delay in the stream, but I think I could live with that. I need to tweak the web interface a little, but it's just a .css file and one HTML page. It shouldn't be too hard to do. Screenshots below. More later. I need sleep.

I can actually do it either way. I can split the USB-Com port with XPort and use iSSH from the iPad to Telnet or SSH in and do it from the telnet prompt, or I can use the recorder program to control it from a web page on the iPad (laptop/recoding program as server).
