iPad 2 install in Silverado!

So, I plan on installing an iPad 2 in my truck and remove the iPad 1 setup. I will post the progress. Below is a video of the old setup. I have decided to move the iPad down and relocate the A/C controls to the center console. My goal is to try to keep the body lines and because of this I had to cut the air vent to be able to move the iPad to the right. I also plan on using a linear actuator to motorize it as I did in the previous install. I will also fiberglass the center console to house the deck...

So how are you connecting the ipad2 to the rest of your system? I am assuming either the audison bitone or just another head unit?

How are you handling hands free calling if you are NOT using a head unit? I am currently planning my install of an ipad2 in my 2003 Camry.

That dash looks really nice by the way. Looking forward to seeing the final install.

It connects to the iPad dock connector located on the left of the frame and from there, I take the audio out and charging. The audio out goes to the Kenwood Headunit's aux in. The Kenwood has USB input for when I don't have the iPad and has a mic that I drilled onto the dash for handsfree calling.

I finished up the fiberglassing on the new setup and doing the clean up and touch-ups before paint. It's looking really good.

I see some people out there not using a head unit and I guess they don't do hands free calling.

So since you had this in before, can you recommend any apps that are good for in car use? I currently have the Oxygen Audio O'Car in my car. It replaces a head unit with a iphone mount.

Motion X is my GPS of choice. tunein radio for internet radio, Radar Active, and of course Pandora.

You definitely want to get LeechTunes for music... I don't even use the iPod app anymore because of LeechTunes' intuitive design and gestures to control your music. I can browse my music without even looking at the iPad. I'm waiting for the iPad 2 jailbreak so I can add the additional gestures and not have to use the home button, and enable voice control.

Also, I think using a headunit is a must, because this way you have a backup if you don't have the ipad on your car and you will get radio, BT, handsfree calling, USB for music, and volume.

Finishing the fiberglassing.

Adding plastic Epoxy. I plan on using zero bondo. This epoxy resembles the plastic of the dash and will flex appropriately with changing tempertures and not crack with time like fiberglass and Bondo.

Torres, first off- sick install looks really good, i did some searching and my brain is hurting lol from so much info. I have 2- 4ch amps and 1-sub amp all powered by a pioneer 3200 double din. What i want to do is attempt to install an iPad as well, and i want to know how are you able to use your iPad and your kenwood deck? Can i do the same with my pioneer? And if so, how do i go about this? i came across this cable its used for tv but i curious as to if i can use this for a quick install

While the main dash piece is at the shop for paint, the next project is the A/C relocation..
Before:

The main idea is to place the Deck on the top and A/C controls on the bottom. This is the frame I will use to keep things straight when applying the fiberglass:

If your Pioneer deck has an Aux input then you should be able to hook it up like I did. As you can see from the build, I used the iPad dock and used the audio out from the dock to the aux in on the deck. You can use the cable on your link, but you definitely want to get one with charging... Another thing, that cable has video out, so you won't be able to see videos on your iPad unless you jailbreak it.
