Another idea is to only extend the remote eye and have it protrude somewhere it can receive the signal from the remote control.

I notice that the dash has a vinyl covering. How do you mend the filler with the vinyl?

Also what epoxies did you use to mend the bezels to the dash? This is a common problem that dashboards present, as the sun will capitalize on weak spots. :/

The dash is plastic with a vinyl texture so that was no problem. I dont use epoxy to blend the bezel because of the mess and its hard to sand. I have also had issues with epoxy wanting to cure and react weeks later in a hot car and creating a chemical reaction with the paint. I use CA glue with instant activator to hold it in place. I will sometimes plastic weld if its a deep enough transition from the bezel to the dash. Once I have them in place I duraglass all the seams and transition spots. Then go over that with Rage Gold Extreme and smooth it. Then some dolphin glaze and a little more smoothing. I have some dashes that refuse to bond and will seperate constantly. When that happens I actually cut a deep groove along the seperation line and fill with melted ABS until it is overflowing so I can smear from side to side. Then cover it with filler an sand. That pretty much makes it a solid part as opposed to two.

Cabe, for sure, I am with you on the CA Glue. I CA Glue the hell out of my bezels to OEM panels to mend them. At times though, you have to be careful because the heat from the reaction can warp the plastic. As you said, duraglass from there and then it is all a process!

One more question. As for the texture, I use SEM Texture and it produces a nice fine texture that matches dashes with the same type texture. What I have been trying to re-create is the texture that is much coarser, just as it is on that dash you are working with.

What would you recommend?

To produce the deep groovy vinyl look like the one I am working on is quite the process. It is actually done during the paint. There a few different ways to do it but I have always used the plastic wrap technique. You lay the plastic down over the primer while its wet and then pull it off and it leaves the grooves and lines. Wait till it is dry and then paint. They also make a texture roller that you roll over filler or primer and it leaves the grooves. To be honest, there is no easy way to do it, you just have to experiment.
