Ok I picked up a used Asus EeePC T91(SA) touch screen with high expectations…I messed around with the installed XP Home with special embedded
software for it. I also Installed
Windows 7 Ultimate, and Ubuntu Remix. I wanted to try the Creative Xfi USB card… I got all the drivers to install correctly on all 3 platforms… I hooked up to my car speakers/amp… Well to make a long story short, ubuntu is too slow, Windows 7 has a tad too many recourses running, even running with minimum services, and finally reinstalled the XP that came with it… Quick, but once the USB is plugged in the takes over 50-100% of the CPU usage…I got the cracking issues resolved for the most part, but its too damn slow and this was while I wasn’t even driving! So its back the drawing boards, I think Ill pick up a shuttle barebones and throw in a e6400 cpu and one of the many 1GB sticks of ddr2 I have laying around…as well pick up a descent 5.1 PCI
sound card & PCIX
video card + descent touch screen…at least I can run some awesome games after a session of surfing here in Hawaii! :-P
In conclusion, the ASUS EeePC T91 does not work well in my opinion.
I forgot to mention I installed Centerfuse trial… It too was slow especially with USB Xfi.
Unless someone has better experience with a non load intensive USB 5.1 Sound.. Im selling my T91 and getting the Ipad (not for car use)
