    Radioshark2 AM/FM frontend

    As the beagle board supports USB, I'd like to adapt my QT based Radioshark2 AM/FM USB reciever frontend for MeeGo and the hardware platform. This might entail reworking the application into a media player type plugin-- or just simply porting it. Deciding the correct course of action would be the first step.

    External Audio Recording

    I've been planning to install a computer in my car for audio recording. When camping in Pacific Northwest there are lots of animal sounds at night. I thought my car would make a good isolation booth for microphones mounted on the outside of my truck. The computer could filter and apply compression to the signal coming from outside.

    Anti theft system

    The goal is to produce a system to secure your car from thieves, here are the use cases:
    1. When you are driving and somebody stole your car, you can activate the security system just pressing a panic button (in touch screen) or with your cell phone (bluetooth, wifi or a simple call).
    2. Once the security system is activated it will behave like you want. To program a desired behavior the user will simple drag and drop function icons (cut the fuel, brake the car, lock/unlock doors, trigger the horn, call an emergency number, etc), or course, this is done using the touch screen.
    3. While the system is activated a hidden camera will record everything inside the vehicle and, later, you can watch and download the video to know who stole your car and help the police to catch the bad guy.
    4. As additional work you can track your car in live time: a gps module will get fixes and will send it (through 3G or sms text - still to be defined), so you can view where the thief is going and later retrieve your car.
    5. Since the system will have bluetooth, the user can also lock/unlock doors and open/close windows using the cellphone.

    So, every function and behavior is user-defined with a friendly interface and made through drag-n-drop icons. Thats where we'll take advantage of Qt and Meego.

    Would be cool if you used OSDash for this as well .

    New and old combined

    I have bought a 1980 Revcon RV but the complete wiring is toast. For this reason I desided to make the dash digital. What greater combination of old and new could there be? Multi Media and a digital dash in a 33 foot 1980 RV. As my RV has no ODB to use I am programing a Arduino to gather the data but I could really use this Beagle board to display the data to a monitor instead of all the old instruments. The electronics needed mean a lot of soldering but I'm getting there. There is only a little problem left: learing VisualBasic to program the "dash" but that is only a matter of time.

    After I bought my Revcon I found out that there was no wiring left so I had to do it all over myself because here in Europe there is nobody who knows anything about it. As I was on the way I came up with the idea to replace the dash with a new on. For the data gathering I came up with the arduino that is a resonable easy way to go from the in-car analog signals to digital. I had to solder up some parts to make the speedometer and the rpm a analog signal instead of pulses. The tanklever should be easier for that is only a resistor, but as the weather is getting to cold to work on my RV I was going to start to learn a programming language (Visual Basic), but as I have to learn it from scratch it could well be a programming tool for ubuntu. The only thing the beagle board is supposed to do is display the data that comes in over a USB port to a monitor. I saw some dashed on the projects site of beagleboard.org so that should be possible as the all go from a data input to a display output.
    However the visual basis would have been easier as I have worked with basis before, but if VB doesn't work for WinCE I have to learn a different language, it will take me some more time but the program is gonna be pretty simple, so it can be done. And sure: using the beagle board as a onboard multi media centre added to the dash would not be wrong, but that is a step furter into the future. I lke to take on step at a time!!

    Hope this gives you a better idea!!

    Some of the judges are asking for more technical details about how you would accomplish your project. Can you provide a bit more of a project plan? Since Visual Basic is not supported by MeeGo perhaps you could address how and why that would be integrated.

    talesgurjao, Can you give us a brief technical explanation of how you plan to integrate with the vehicle systems as well as what safety elements you plan to integrate? Certainly you wouldn't want your project accidentally taking control of critical vehile systems like brakes.

    my 50c about brakes for that person, we had some what similar project ... we used radial actuator to slowly start pulling brakes (like relly slawly) and giving driver audio alarm that car will go to full stop now and it is higly recomedded to pull over on their own. Automative grade controlller w/ 2 CPUs should work ok, we hope didnt brake so far
