If you head over to https://autoappmart.com you will see that all the images are now uniform and rounded.
Its much nicer looking and because it crops the large image, some of these icons look really awesome.

they actually look kinda weird since the picture isn't centered in the crop
Nah!
Not feeling it at all.
It's all very well having a similar thing to app stores, but copying the style of the icons is a nothing altogether.
The goal was to standardize the images of the apps. Anyone have suggestions on what we can do without copying other app store icon designs?
i'm sure you're just cropping with scripts, but if at all possible just shrink the horizontal proportion of the app so that the full image is shown and then trim the ends.. sort of like this

i can do that, but that would stretch and skew the image?
Then maybe developers need to have their own app icons, rather than trying hack a screenshot
I did an icon for the RRUpd8 installer so I can use that as app icon.
Sso if you add a separate icon upload and then we can use that as the app icon upload and then screenshots can be left alone to be screenshots.
Also the Centrafuse plugins have icons for the buttons, those couild be used as app store icons.
I see what your saying. These aren't supposed to be "screenshots" though. They are supposed to be Icons. Icon's aren't supposed to show the app, they should represent the app.
If a developer makes an app icon and uploads it as the correct 80x80 size then this cropping thing won't affect it. The issue is that no one makes an icon, and everyones images are all crazy sizes. I think for the app mart to look legit there needs to be some sort of standard, whatever that may be.
This is an example of what an icon would look like if i took the most common 800x480 screen shot and made it 80x80 with square corners

Its not horrible, but its not professional either. Thats just my opinion which doesn't count for much, but i'm just throwing it out there.
if icons are what you're trying to go for then i agree with enforcer, create a required field with a required resolution for icons. I agree all of the images should be the same size, i just don't see how you can achieve that cleanly with screenshots.
