  1. TranStar Dagger GT 2000HP 300MPH - SEMA 2010

    At SEMA this year, we were eager to see some of the most performance oriented vehicles as well as some of the latest and greatest in mobile technology. Among our picks to see: the Hennessey Venom GT. Afterall, 1200 bhp and 1155 lb-ft of torque in a car weighing 2685lbs has got to be fun. As we walked up the Mobile 1 booth, where the Venom was supposed to be, it became overly apparent the vehicle was incognito. Disappointed, we looked for an explanation from a Mobile 1 representative. Apparently the vehicle was caught up in customs somewhere and might not be making an appearance at the show for the next several days, if at all. Our search, then, switched to find other amazing performance vehicles as obviously the threat of importing weapons of mass destruction or illegal substances in one of the world’s fastest supercars is prominent.



    This lead us to the TranStar Dagger GT. Two-thousand horsepower, 300MPH, in a car that weights 3000 pounds sounds like a bit of a fairytale. Too good to be true? Maybe. But TranStar Racing is eager to seek investors to facilitate the production of their Dagger GT to find out. Still, their “suspended” website might not be the best image to convey to wealthy individuals. Several years in the design process and the car is still “several months” from being actually race track ready. Still, if produced, TranStar assures us that the $500K+ vehicle will deliver performance stats nothing short of scary. The below performance specs are estimated.


    • Weight to Horsepower Ratio: 1.2:1
    • 0-60 mph: 1.2 seconds
    • ¼ Mile: 6.6 seconds @ 204 mph
    • Top speed: 314 mph
    • 60-0 mph Braking Distance: < 100 feet
    • Fuel consumption @ 300 mph: 5 gallons per minute
    • Time to empty @ 300 mph: < 5 minutes
    • 0-100-0: < 10 seconds
    • 0-60-0: < 4 seconds


    Again, just scary in a vehicle without wings.

    The one that caught my eye the most is fuel burn at 300 mph. I would be more than happy to just get to 300 mph for just a split second and I think the least of my worries would be how much fuel I’m burning while I’m there or how long I could theoretically stay at this ludicrous speed. My thoughts would be in the realm of how to avoid being flung up in to the approach path of a nearby landing aircraft or how to get back below 300 mph as quickly as possible because my stomach’s about to turn up-side-down. At 300 mph, the Dagger GT is traveling 5 miles per minute and burning 1 gallon every mile, a figure likely to be frowned upon by the EPA. To put this another way, the Dagger GT is burning 1 gallon every 12 seconds. It’s difficult to even dispense fuel at this rate at the local yacht fueling station, where they’re used to filling 1000+ gallon tanks.

    According to the Dagger GT technical specifications worksheet, electronics will include “custom Azentek onboard computer system, 9” touch screen dash-mounted monitor, infotainment/nav system, vehicle/ engine diagnostics, Dolby Surround Sound, voice recognition software, 120 GB HD, DVD/CD player, MP3, Windows Vista [?], Internet WiFi, satellite radio, PC card, Bluetooth, and more.”

    There will be five possible models; three race models and two street models. I thought the manufacturer’s description of each was interesting:


    • “Dagger GT-R will be our road racing model, with a dynamic, computer-managed split rear wing, set up to challenge and establish new lap records at Virginia International Raceway and at Nurburgring, Germany.
    • Dagger GT-LS will be our land-speed model with 500 mph rated M/T landspeed tires, forward ballast, full bellypan with twin venturi tunnels, land-speed wheel covers, intake aero plugs, parachute, Bonneville rollcage and a range of other options to help our buyers set new landspeed records in excess of 300 mph. Options will include landspeed instrumentation/avionics [with an altimeter?] packages, windshield options and other possibilities.
    • Dagger GT-D will be our drag racing model with Goodyear Pro Stock Slicks, or DOT drag tires, hydraulic-launched doubld drag chutes, NHRA rollcage and a modified/changeable rear suspension that will enable 200 mph in the quarter mile and emulate Pro Stock traction mechanics which routinely produce 200 mph timeslips with much less power.
    • Dagger GT-S will be our “Sport” model, a street-legal version of the GT-R model. The owner can specify his/her suspension preference. This is our ‘base’ model starting at $500,000+.
    • Dagger GT-X will be our luxury model with a custom interior designed especially for you by After FX Customs, the premier after-market paint and interior firm in the U.S. The options you may specify are unlimited, subject to feasibility.”

    So if you’re in the market for a $500,000+ Veyron killer, TranStar racing promises at least a college try of superseding many of the Veyron’s speed records.

  3. SEMA 2009 - 2011 Lexus LFA

    Rob Wray from mp3Car gets a first time view of the new Lexus LFA. This car is simply beautiful. It sports an LCD display screen that can control race times. It also has an automated manual transmission plus the standard Lexus in dash screen. With 350 lb-ft of torque and a 0-60 time of about 3.5 seconds it may be worth the 375k price tag.
