    by , 12-17-2009 at 02:44 PM

Forum member no_hazmats had previously been working to do an electric van conversion controlled by his car computer. Due to the lack of some available parts he has switched to an RX-7. He has started a new work log to show off some of his progress on the new 100% electric rx-7. Things are moving very fast. They hope to do test rides before new years. no_hazmats is an electrical geek with basic programing skills. For those of you who are advanced car computer users and programmers, he could use some of your help. Join the conversion conversation.

  2. Linux Based Front End Platform LinuxIce v2.0 Released

    by , 12-17-2009 at 09:50 AM
Could the Linux community have a fully featured alternative to Windows based in-vehicle front ends? The answer could be Yes.

The OpenICE organization announced the release of LinuxICE 2.0, codenamed "Anino." LinuxICE is based on the Ubuntu operating system. However, thanks to a team of international developers it looks nothing like it and it has been heavily modified and optimized for use in a vehicle environment.

Some of the features of LinuxICE include:

    • Build-in Navigation
    • Media Playback
    • Support for many add-on devices, ex. OBDII Scantools, HD Radion, Touchscreens, etc..
    • Designed to be stable, fast, efficient and easy to setup and operate
