Parrot MK6100 install

Gave up on trying to get phonecontrol to work with my old computer, and even though I probably now have everything I need to make it work with my new Vista Ultimate CarPc, I still decided to get a Parrot instead of messing with Phonecontrol. Very happy so far, no glitches, and install was a breeze with the quick connect Bose harness. Decided to go for the balls out in your face installation on the display screen/mic. It does block a little of the tach and speedo, but can been seen fine as long as you don't slouch.

Haven't found any friends with a BT streaming audio device yet, but my Logitech BT headphone transmitter did not work with this...as it is probably made just for the headphones and thats it. With the Car PC, BT audio streaming is not a priority.

I tried to make the computer based bluetooth hands free unit to work too and couldn't get it to work right.

I was thinking about getting one of these. I liked how it worked out for you!

Yea the CarPc based one seems neat at first, but in all practically, the Parrot kits are the way to go. You don't have to deal with Broadcom drivers, bluetooth stacks, dongles, your PC has to be on and running etc. etc...

Yes I have come to the same conclusion.. keep the Parrot carkit and forget about getting the carpc to handle the phone. For now I will concentrate on getting the carkit to work with tha carpc. Mainly because I'm stuck on how to set/break headset(audio gateway) from within a VB6 /vb.net application.

But I still have one thing I'm wondering about.

I will use microphone from Parrot carkit and use speakers in car. But how to mute the carpc when a call is active ?. It's not like the carpc has a TEL mute connector like the old headunit.

Is the only way to achieve this to get som relays and build a 'black box', which will break carpc speaker connection and set carkit speaker connection, when TEL mute from carkit gets ground ?

Any inputs appriciated

You could put a mute button on the desktop of the PC. (I don't know where you'd get one, but I'm sure there's one available somewhere)

Then when you get a all just click on the mute button real quick and you're set to go.

I don't have that problem at all, as I am using one of the quick connect factory audio adapters that connects to the Parrot box and the factory stereo... it gives power to the Parrot, and physically disconnects the speakers from the stereo while connecting them to it's internal amplifiers while the call is being made... In my case though, I have the Mazda Bose system, so I had to get the pricey line level version since my amps are in the doors and the signal needs to stay line level during mute. Scroll down to the Bose version. (This is basically the black box you were speaking of)

My car PC is run into the back of my factory deck using a special adapter that tricks the CD changer input to become a new line level input. So basically, I have full stock radio functionality, with an extra line input for the CarPC, and auto-everything-muting to the Bose amps/speakers when the call comes through the Parrot and the call is sent to the speakers.

I am not sure of your current stereo setup, but I think there will be a solution for you out there.

I installed the MK6100 in my Ford Explorer. After spending an additional $60 for a wiring harness to make it compatible with my radio, it installed easily.

Now the rest of the story. The wireless remote control only works occasionally. If it is not working, you will not be able to make a call. A new battery does not solve the problem. The mic is in the display. That mic is pretty much useless as you won't be heard even when shouting. They know that it is a problem because the kit comes with a separate mic that can be installed closer to your mouth. I installed it on the sun visor so that it is within 6 inches of my mouth. I still get complaints that the other party can't hear me. Talking loudly doesn't seem to help.

If you have an iPhone there are additional problems. First, the firmware must be downgraded to an earlier version to be compatible with the phone. In that downgrade you lose some of the functionality of the system. If the remote happens to be working and you touch the green "answer" button, the MK6100 will dial the last number that you called on the phone. If that is not what you intended to do, you cannot stop the call with the MK6100. You must stop the call with the phone itself. Since the remote is attached to the steering wheel, I occasionally touch it. I have had to make several apologies.
