another option for a remote screen that you could stealthly install:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_YYys9-kiE

was thinking about waiting for the prices to go down on those and using that in my dash. color display, android based, waterproof, gps... you could install it in your passenger side glove box maybe or along the side benchs somewhere. then use that for your guests to control music..

you could do something clever with the fb and some servos or a linear actuator. have it hide when not in use.
    New System in progress:

Behringer DCX2496 ~ Envision Electronics psu

Wow! Add a keychain float to it and it's the perfect remote control for a boat!!

At $450 full retail, it's a bit too pricey right now... Could prob get a rooted nook to work for a lot less.

The fusionbrain actually turned out extremely simple to work with (on my home laptop). Plugged fb into usb, installed drivers, installed the test software... Done. Only checked the discrete outputs -- haven't done anything with the inputs. I was a little worried I'd end up writing my own RR plug-in (oh great, more software to write), but... It's already done! Sonicxtacy02 wrote the RRFusion plug-in for RR. I checked it out with the little demo skin included -- it worked great! Extremely excited about how easy it is to work with.

With the control path figured out, I've started working on my own skin. Big buttons and hopefully good enough contrast for reading in full sun with my Xenarc. Gimp is working great as a graphic development tool. Right now focusing on building the graphics. Maybe in another month I'll have it skinned and ready for meaningful testing on the boatputer.

oh yikes... gimp?! i can't even cut and paste in gimp! do you have a pc available to you you? also. dont know if you;re interested buy i did a little RR skinning. i can send you a drop box link if you want to use that. you may be able to use some icons and i think the layout is very clean and touch friendly.

as for the phone. yeah. not practical right now, but it is waterproof and the rate that cell phones depreciate. probably next season it'll be an option. the nook is a great ides too. just keep it dry.

Gimp is actually pretty impressive! There's a bit of a learning curve, but once you get past that -- it works great.

Sure - would like to see what you've done with your boat skin! What did you use to develop it?
