Do boat owners face any problems that are vastly different than car owners?

    BTW: I don't sleep.

Well, for one, it's not necessary to update maps as often.

    BTW: I sleep even less.

Also, why is the blurb under the Boat Computers section about "so you want to stick your car computer into your boat"... shouldn't it just be simply "so you want to stick a computer into your boat"?
    Gen 1: Pentium 3 1GHz - ATX - 2005
    Gen 2: Pentium M 1.6GHz - ITX - 2006
    Gen 3: Pentium M 2.0GHz - 5.25" SBC - 2007
    Gen 4: (coming soon: Core2 Duo - 3.5" SBC - 2009)
    ...it never ends

yes. they are more likely to want a dual battery setup for running the PC when the engine is not on.

Also, if you think cars have it bad with glare and brightness then think again! Boats have it much worse. I am helping someone out on that front.

Go for it I say Fibreoptic, as i said they are the main 2 issues boat people face. TBH they are best getting rid of the touh overlay or using a 10" screen with a SAW touchscreen so there are definitely differences that are big enough to warrant a separate section. And boats are cool

I think a xbox or car box section would also be a good idea:-) nothing about chipping more what can be done and whats being used.

Just last week I was showing my carputer to a friend and he started asking about putting a PC in his boat. He has a depth finder which outputs via serial port and he wants to tie that and a GPS into one system to map out the depths on the lake he frequently fishes. One of the problems he talked about no one has mentioned here and that is the shock forces that happen when running full throttle across the water. Boats don't have shock absorbers.

FYI: On the main forum page - underneath the boat section, there's a spelling error:
"So, you want to stick your car comptuer in your boat"

I was going to PM you Fiber about this, but it seems like your PM's are deactivated.

    Thanks

I don't really use PM. My e-mail link should work though. Thanks for pointing it out.

    Marine Specific issues

I am getting a list goign of Marine specific issues:

Brightness (look at your monitor on deck)
Ultra low power (for sailing across an ocean and only having wind electricity generation)
Dual monitors (Charting/Mapping/Productivity all on one computer)
    Shock - High speed boats
    Salt water corrosion problems
    Marine Navigation/Charting Software
