ok, got out my ipod speakers

looks like 2 channel audio ONLY plays though front, UNLESS you turn on environment sounds (not recomened, they sound like crap)

when set to quadrophonic, the 2 are sides...
you can set to 7.1 and manually disable, the speakers you dont have

even audioreapter wont play to 4 channels

could be a vista/win7 limitation, or could be realtek limitation

EVEN WINAMP will only play to 2 channels

technically this is all two channel audio....and you shouldnt have any sound from the rear
but dont get me started on how brainwashed people are in car audio world

for NOW, could get 2 cheap FADER and add it to outputs to spilt to 4 channels

i see others saying older realtek drivers had a fill option, but its gone now

    look at this thread

    learning on the fly here

also, a FYI, you can RETASK 2 jacks as both FRONT....
then u get a copy of 2 channel audio on both front and rear!!

    mission accompilished

set to STEREO, set both jacks as FRONT

ok, its not perfect, perfect would be u have level control of rear
but that is easier to mess with on AMPs then prob to get this to go another way

why they took out SPEAKER FILL, who knows...

i think we could get old driver to try... but its really old...

I'm using XP. I also have X-fi from creative do you think it will work with that?
If I use that sound card with win 7 it crashes the system and realteck does not work
very well with win 7, that’s why I'm using Xp.

as for realtek in XP, if the drivers are up to snuff(prob are) i assue you can retask the jack

x-fi to me is overkill in a car
    great for gaming...

    Hi Mitchjs,

I am starting with my set-up and need some advice on the Audio side.

    I am using a Gigabyte M912X Netbook:

    Mobile Intel® 945GSE Express Chipset+ ICH7M
    USB(2.0)*3, Mic-in, Earphone-out, D-Sub, RJ45, 4-in-1 card reader (SD/MMC/MS/MS Pro), ExpressCard, DC-in

    I currently have XP sp3, running CF3.

I want to order the BoomzBox radio so I can replace my OEM HU but need to make sure it will work with my audio?

I was concidering an external soundcard to get 5.1 as my vehicle (2000 P38 Range Rover) has a DSP driving all Harmon Kardon audio (front/rear/sub) in the vehicle and wanted to try and hook this up to my set-up.

Not sure if the DSP in the car actually receives digital audio from the head unit but it does stuff like mute music on only front speakers when Nav audio is output to front speakers, can also assign DVD audio to rear speakers for the kids watching DVD and I can listen to radio on the front speakers.

I would like to retain these functions but chuck the Land Rover (Alpine) casset/disk changer control HU which currently does nothing but FM radio.

First prize would be to hook the current DSP + HK audio straight to my front end hardware.

    Have you done this before?

i havent done anything like that... before you do anything, i would research the audio system more in the car

also 5.1 isnt how audio is cars are done... (not to mention no center)
(and music isnt 5.1 anyway... movies are)
rear is generally a copy of front
    -Thanks

    Hi Mitchjs,

I will search more on the system in the car yes.

I'm not looking for the Dolby 5.1 sound but rather the ability to assign seperate channels to certain functions, perhaps a 2.2.1 system better describes what I want?

So, when listening mp3 or radio it would be front/rear/sub. When the Nav pipes in it would mute the music on the fronts only and play the Nav directions on the front only but the rears and sub keep the original level.
If watching a DVD on the second screen (as per CF3) the rear speakers and sub can be assigned to the DVD audio and the front speakers keep on playing the radio or mp3. This would be when the kids in the back are watch a DVD while I listen to my fav's on mp3 in the front on long distances.

I wander if that has been done. Should be possible?

    CRV.
