No SOUND. Definite Codec Problem. Help!

Windows XP. Two systems, same problem, one has a Realtek AC'97 audio driver, the other has a RealtekHD (an EEE PC). Here it is:

So just to get this out first, EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS. The computer is "hearing" the sound, the software is sensing the signal--I know this because it seeks and shows RDS data. Everything is working up to the point where I should be able to hear it. But no...

Additionally, and strangely, when I go into the control panel -> sounds and audio devices -> the the "voice" tab, I can do a "test hardware" for voice recording which allows me to hear the signal as if it were coming through the mic. But that's it. The only way.

Now HERE is the biggest symptom of the issue. Even though I can select the USB Audio Codec as the recording device, when I go to volume control (playback, recording) it has no options and everything is grayed out. Same in control panel.

Brand new. Installed everything per instructions. to troubleshoot I have already installed on two computers and the problem repeated itself.

PLEASE HELP.

that is all correct.. there is NO adjustments in XP (os limitation)

course i dont know what your are using... but lets assume BoomzBox Software

right click, settings, enable audio engine, enable monitor, select USB Audio CODEC

exit settings... you shoudl hear audio :)

REMEMBER 1st time you plug it in, windows thinks you want to playback your audio though this device, which of course you cant, reset your DEFAULT PLAYBACK DEVICE

Solved. Thanks Mitch... I had not enabled the audio engine in the settings.

Now, I should be able to use CF with a few more steps...

CF on xp is a little tricky (cause they got a bug in thier device enumeration for the wave in devices on xp)

I've seen some of your other advice on that. Editing of a system file is required? I'm sure I can find the thread again. If it's easy, and you see this, you could always post the line to edit here.

I've heard the bug is easy to fix when you have the right info to replace in the file.

O.K. Everything works in BoomzBox, but still not Centrafuse.

I have changed the config file just like your instructions and the USB device just WILL NOT ENUMERATE in the record line-in list.

Here's the thing. Everything is working. There is data from the radio station. I know the signal is being received by Centrafuse. But there is no sound.

UPDATE: I want to clarify that I see the device in the PLAYBACK LINE IN but not the RECORD LINE IN. I don't know how to fix that.

you're right, it WILL NEVER enumerate in the record line-in list
its a bug in CF, i think i have said this 1000+ times

set to hd radio
set buffered audio on, set (on page 2) step to 100khz
set none for record and playback lines
SAVE
EXIT CF
EDIT config file...
restart CF
go to radio... do you hear it? no, edit config file again
most of the time is 1, but could be 2, it all depends on how many
wave in devices you have
DO NOT go back to radio config!
