USB Audio codec just isn't there...so no sound

    XP Pro.
    Read all the instructions.
    Plugged everything in, installed drivers.
Noticed that XP didn't default to USB AUDIO DEVICE like the instructions said it would...so I didn't need to change my playback device....
Installed boomzbox hd software, ran it. Finds the tuner, able to tune, seeking finds local channels, just no sound.
I know my sounds work in XP in general, volume is up, etc.
In device manager under sound, game devices there is no USB AUDIO CODEC present like the instructions say there should be. It appears my OS did not automatically install this. I think this is my problem. How do I get this to show up? (USBAUDIO.SYS is present in windows\system32\drivers.)
Tried this on another computer same thing no luck.
    Confirmed 12V supply is working.
Plugged in and unplugged boomzbox from multiple usb ports.
    Uninstalled and reinstalled driver.

These were XP installs made with nlite.... I don't remember stripping down the configuration I was just using nlite to slipstream SP and make it unattended. I'm hoping I didn't inadvertently leave something out.

Ultimately I'll be using this in RideRunner. I setup RRconfig as instructed, but when I start RR I get an error message saying something about hd radio and port 0. Didn't expect that to work anyway since I can't get sound with the boomzbox software yet.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    -Thanks.

Are you sure that you have the Microsoft High Definition Audio class drivers installed on the system? I had a similar issue once with replacing a sound card and this resolved it.
The best forum start place is here but damned if I could find it. I had spent several weeks on the forum before finding it.

    Thanks for the idea.
Tried it and no luck though.
downloaded kb888111, changed registry key to allow it to install on SP3, restarted. plugged in the BB, still no "USB AUDIO Device" listed and I still only have one audio device, the onboard audio. Tried unstalling and reinstalling BB drivers, no luck.

Also, to prove that a USB Audio Device can be detected and listed on my system, I plugged in an old Soundblaster USB device. USB Audio shows up as a device in my Sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialogue, and also in Device Manager.

OK, I've tried this on 3 of my own computers and 2 at work with OE XP installs (with full admin rights) and USB AUDIO CODEC does not show up in device manager nor as an audio device in CP->Sounds and Audio Devices in any situation.

I've tried two different power supplies: my car's battery and another 12V DC power supply. I opened the case and probed for 12V after the fuse and confirmed it's getting 12V.
    I've tried different USB cables
I've assured there are no bent pins on the mini-DIN connector. installed and reinstalled it repeatedly.
I've tried plugged and unplugged the USB connector.
    I've tried different ports.
I've restarted w/ and w/o the device plugged in.

I can achieve control of the tuner and it tunes fine with the boomzbox software, I can hear the relay click on and off and tune to local stations and see the call sign, just no sound.

To be clear, this not a CF issue that others are having as I am not using it. I can't even get sound to work with the BoomzBox software, the USB audio device just isn't present, the OS isn't automatically installing it like the instructions say it will. I only see my one audio device (onboard audio in all of these cases).

    Am I doing something wrong?

    Please advise,
    Thanks.

Just got my replacement unit, plugged it in and USB codec shows up proper. That problem is solved. Now I have another one just like they guy in this thread: here.

Boomzbox radio program just says searching for tuner when set on auto. Then if I specify the port, it can't find it. With my previous unit it was found just fine, I heard the power relay click and was able to seek channels. This one is a no-go.

I confirmed I'm getting 12 V at the terminals. Popped it open and confirmed 12 V after the fuse. Checked for bent pins on the DIN connector, they were fine. Installed and reinstalled the din cable.

So now it appears I've received 2 different units with 2 different problems and I'm wondering what the 99.9% tested claim is all about.

I hope MP3Car.com will cover shipping both ways this time and maybe upgrade shipping to expedite me yet another replacement. I understand their return policy doesn't cover shipping but that can be overridden on their end in the nature of good faith. I'm a bit disappointed here regarding quality, two units and I haven't heard a single note of radio from either one as they were both DOA.

Mitch if you have any suggestions for quickly diagnosing this let me know. I'll be filing another RMA request.

    Thanks.

Update: Just tried it on a 2nd computer, powered 12V from my desktop's power supply. No luck.
