Maybe there was something wrong with it in the first place and you just made it worse? Usually you can hit "Synchronize Protocol & Baud rate" and it will try everything to figure out what's being output by the GPS. If that doesn't work, then it's most likely bad.

That might have not been necessary. I think these units have an internal battery. If you don't use the receiver for an extended time (if it is unplugged from USB), then eventually the battery will discharge itself. The next time you use the GPS receiver, the unit should go into factory settings. I'm not sure about BU-353, but batteries in some other receivers may take even a couple of weeks to discharge :-)

i opened it and removed the battery for about a week lol. Made no difference. I think the previous poster was right... i might have been doomed from the start.

Well, I would give you an update, but my computer all the sudden shut down. It's completely dead. The hdd is not even recognized by bios. Talk about luck... I did use iGuidance to find a gas station and get me back onto 95 and I love it. Now I'm trying to figure out why it died.................................... I'll post in here if I still have the lag after I reinstall.

    Same here

I'm also lagging with the bu-353 on a mac mini. I've used StreetDeck on bootcamp and I'm planning on trying roadnav in OSX to see if it will do the same. I haven't done much experimenting yet (other than the obvious of making sure everything is up to date), but as soon as I try anything I'll post results here.

...I am also experiencing the lag issue with the BU-353, but mine is on the order of 10 seconds or so.

Any updates/fixes to the issues I quoted above?

Ooo, yeah sorry I didn't post this earlier. Even though the documentation with the packaging said other wise, my unit is set to a higher baud rate. I tried setting both Streetdeck and roadnav to 38400 baud and now it is spot on. I'd play around with the baud rate and see if that helps. I'm not sure if you can change the baud rate on the BU-353 itself with a firmware flash or something. Anyone else know about that?

Cool. Thanks for the update. I'll try that in a few minutes and post later with results.

Tried resetting the baud to 38400...couldn't get the GPS to connect or any output (my packaging also says to use a lower baud rate). I'll try to use SIRFdemo to see if the GPS is capable of communicating at any other baud rate, and if so, then try that rate.

Man, this is frustrating...GPS "works" but not well enough to be useful. :-(
