Actually, what do you all think of the DLS Iridium 6.3 set? For the money would I be better off going with something like Scan speakers or one of the other DIY brands? I would love to go with the Focal Utopia set, but it's out of my price range unfortunately.

DLS makes a good speaker, no doubt.

    i agree.

just an f.y.i as far as less is more.

some of the best sounding audiophile speakers have a single driver and a horn enclosure to produce the full range of sound.

well now that i posted that last errr...post. Have you ever considered using horn drivers? these will play a wider range of freq. allowing for better imaging and it actually uses the horn and the cars body panels to 'roll' the sound up toward you. You can also get away with as little as 15 wrms to these puppies since they are very efficient. (again..some audiophile speakers will blow your eardrums out with only 5 wrms of power....it's all about efficiencey in that case.

    disclaimer:
none of what i wrote in this post is based on personal experience (concsering the automotive horn drivers) but it's from the research i've done. red and turbo will probably be able to give you first hand experience.

I've been told a couple of times that it's better to use the same brands for tweets, and midrange. Would that apply to horns as well do you know?

Turbo is into horns. I think they are pretty vehicle sensitive though as far as being able to fit them in. There's nothing wrong with conventional drivers though. A good 5.25 or 6.5 mid and tweet combo can be excellent. If you want to stick to convential drivers look at the Focal Poly Kevlar component sets for the main front channels. I think they are around $500-$600. Look at the 165 KP if you can afford it and can fit 6.5" mids. The 165 K2P is the upgraded version. These are definetely competition drivers at a realistic price.

I don't have any experience with the DLS brand.

No. Some horn manufacturers don't even make mids.
