what I simply don't get about that HU....it doesn't play any CDs....just iPod...strange...and there's a really long thread around here about the 650.

But if i have a HU and PC i am still trying to figure out how to switch the inputs

I understand, I was mostly responding to Jason's post.

regarding how to switch....you would go aux in from the PC to the HU.

Let me see if I remember the thread correctly..

You're wanting to use the 701 and a regular hu, correct? And you still want to maintain a decent amount of sound quality...correct?

Correct. I was thinking...currently i have a SB Audigy 2 NX, and I can supply a power switch on the 5V line of the NX and cut the power on/off and that would switch the signal!

Another option, but I'm not sure if you would like it is to use another soundcard based on the same chip as the AV-710 that has a optical input as well as output. If you had a HU that had a optical SPDIF out you could run it to the PC. Then the PC would be the only SPDIF signal going to the H701 and you wouldn't need to switch inputs on the H701.

This may be a bad idea as it opens another can of worms like how would you switch from the PC to HU sound? What HU's even have SPDIF out, etc...?

Here's a little chart that may help. It would also help to figure out what would be best to transfer through analog and what through digital depending on what the highest quality of music should have priority. It may not be that big a deal, though. Consider most folks are still running all analog setups and the SQ is still extremely high.
