Alpine PXA-H701 Questions

Really, no EQ? I'll have to look at it in more detail.

EDIT:It seems to have the basic Subwoofer level 0-15, bass and treble -7 - +7. Is this what you meant?

I mainly care about the volume control. I want to be able to control it from the steering wheel without having the high noise floor at lower volumes or when muted that I have now.

Just a bit of interesting info. Appearantly it and one other Pioneer HU are the only 2 units that can directly interface and bypass the 5th gen Ipods internal DAC. The digital info is sent to the HU and it uses the HU's higher end DAC to get the really good sound quality.

Ever since I found a big empty cavity in the dash of my car I've been considering running a 3.1 setup with a center channel. I could actually mount some small subs up there as well, but a center channel would probably be the better choice. Has anyone used the H701 and set up a center channel with a regular 2 channel stereo source? I think the processor can do that.

Not quite B&W - you of course have the backdrop on the unit (check Alpine's WWW site - many available) and most of the text is white. The picture doesn't show it too well but the icons are mostly light blue.

by no eq control I mean that you can't adjust anything on the 701 thru this head, you can have the volume control issue all solved by ai-net, & you can select each of the 6 eq presets from the head, but you gotta also have the display to really do anything useful, I guess you'd need a multimedia headunit with a screen to be able to eliminate the display all togeather, although it's still nice to have

Did you get the H701 or are still on the fence about it? I was wondering if a monitor was hooked up to the 9861 and you went into the H701 control mode if you would get a nice big display with more info than what you see on the 9861's faceplate. Kind of like what you see on the high end Alpine Multimedia units.

Anyway, did you sort out your sound quality problem from earlier? I think I ran out of things to suggest.

If you have a AI-net HU, the H701 and another optical source like a PC or something, can you set the HU input to one of the optical ports on the H700?
Would you then be able to control this other optical source's volume through the HU volume knob?

Having read posts about this exact issue, but without first-hand experience as of yet: it seems that you can use the HU as a master volume control for all auxiliary inputs. However, any non-AI-net optical input will automatically become the active source, such that the Ai-net HU optical output will not be recognized. Once no other optical input is received, then the Ai-net HU once again can play.

I just remembered Turbo talking about a optical switcher a while back. Here is what he said:

Now the part I'm unclear about is if you have the optical PC source connected to the H701 AND have a Apline HU connected only with the analog (signal wise I believe) AI-net connector, would the HU still act as a master volume control for that other optical source?
