yes & yes, that's how it works.

Cool. I'm going to pick up a real cheap AI-net capable HU on ebay and check it all out.

    Hey guys--

I have been very interested in picking up the rux-c701 and pxa-h701 combo for a while, and I think I am gunna get it very soon. However, I have been looking everywhere for a demo video that shows the capabilities of the rux-c701. Does anyone have this setup that can perhaps make a quick demo video? Sorry for the odd request. Thanks

    H701 with D900HU

Will H701 work with IVA-D900Hu without getting the C701 and will I be able to utilize all of the options that are in H701?

    Thanks

    Taz

I got my IVA-W200 working with the PXA-H700 through the AI-net cable (no RCA's) and wanted to point out a few things that have not been mentioned yet concerning the processor control from a multimedia HU.

First, the HU will not let you access any of the H700 controls including the 6 presets unless the car is stopped and you do the whole DVD lockout thing. This was surprising as I knew you couldn't play DVD's unless you did the "shuffle" - hold foot brake, apply handbrake, drop handbrake, apply handbrake, foot off brake pedal. Unless this is done, or else you buy a simple bypass module like the PAC TR7 that does it for you, you can't play DVD's, access the H700/H701, adjust the basic settings of the HU like the clock, etc... nor access certain navigation features. Believe me, I will be picking up a bypass module real soon.

Even with the lockout deactivated it requires several button pushes to access the H700 presets. This is one good reason to still have the Controller handy so you can quickly change presets. In my case I mainly have a "flat" EQ
curve loaded up and then several duplicates with just more bass added that I can switch to depending on the song. Now if this is basically the way you do yours, there may be a work-around to keep from having to buy the Controller. There is a subwoofer level control that is easy to get to with just 2 button presses. It adjusts the whole sub range as opposed to creating a bump centered around a certain frequency, but it's still usefull. Range is 0-15 so you can really make the subs bump if you want.

As far as making adjustments to the x-over and EQ through the HU and not the controller, I'd say they are about equal in looks and control. I haven't made many adjustments through the HU, but it looks and functions very nicely. I don't think the controller has any advantages in that department. I would also give the nod to the HU as far as setting up the speakers and such as the buttons on the Controller are a bit trickier to use plus the HU spells out everthing more nicely and it's a bit easier to understand.

Now if you have a non-MM HU, like a regular CD or DVD player, I think having the Controller is going to be way better. You won't need it for volume control and probably not changing the presets, but I imagine setting things up through the HU controls is going to be confusing and a pain in the rear.

With the H700 connected the volume knob on the Controller is useless like Turbo mentioned. This took care of all my noise floor problems. You can still hear the noise floor when the CD is paused, but it is much lower in volume. When the volume knob is turned to zero it seems like the outputs from the H700 are turned off as it is dead quiet. Now once I get a long enough fiber optic cable I believe pausing the CD will activate the 0-bit mute circuit and turn off the H700 outputs just like it didi when I was using a optic cable from the PC sound card.

One thing I'm not sure about is if the FM and other sources are routed digitally through the optic cable or analog through the AI-net connector. I turned on the optic out setting (without a optic cable) and the radio still played, but the CD player did not. Mmmmm. I assumed that with the fiberoptic cable attached ALL the music info traveled through it, not just the CD or DVD info. It may just be that since the radio is already analog there would be no advantage to having the HU convert it to digital and routed through the optic cable.

If anyone has any questions or comments, please jump in. There's still a lot I don't know about the H700 and how it works.

    P.S.
If anyone has info on replacing the DACs in the H700 to improve SQ, try and post what you can or people to contact. Since I'm only using 2 channels for my front stage, upgrading only those 2 DACs (or a single stereo DAC) is very appealing to me.

I apologize if this has been asked before. I went through this thread a few months back, and couldn't remember if it had been. But has anyone successfully utilized the full capabilities of the PXA-H701 without the rux controller or any other type of alpine head unit? If so, how would you tweak the equalizer and active crossovers?

    Thanks

hypnotiq, I think you can only do all the tweeks without using the RUX-C701 if you had a compatible deck to do so.

So, all in all the H701 would be impossible to tweak without some type of unit to head unit or controller?

    that is correct.

i'm not aware of anyone who has hacked the rux to use with a pc.

without the controller, you can't change anything.

now I believe you can set everything with the ruc then unplug it. so perhaps put the brain somewhere where you can access the ruc port easily?
