Anyone know about a usb sound card without hibernation issues ?
found an other card from terratec: the phase 88
edit: oops..... sorry guys, that one's PCI....
I don't have any problems with my Soundblaster Live but I have seen some users with problems with the Audigy NX...might be due to separate power. I don't really know. For USB devices there is a utility called DEVCON to help out with USB hibernation issues.
I just bought a Behringer UCA202, it's junk. Has just as much noise as the onboard card, picks up HDD and mouse noise. Doesn't even work with RR, and mutes itself in windows for some reason. Tried it on my desktop, has heaps of noise too so it's not just the car PC, and took 3 attempts before windows would pick it up, kept saying "device not recognised". Even after I got it to work, only one channel would output.
To top it off, the build quality is rubbish, the gold plating is all pitted and rough, and the volume knob keeps turning past its stop points.
I'm taking this piece of crap back to the shop as soon as I can!
Sorry to hear your misfortune. Thanks for your review.
I've read this thread with much interest as it directly applies to my situation. I do not have any space left inside the voom pc case for a full blown sound card in the PCI slot. The mobo itself also has a huge heatsink that extends until its right next to the PCI slot (Via EN15000G) which prevents changing the position of the pci slot. So I'm stuck with an external sound card solution (unless someone knows of another clever solution).
I noticed that the M Audio Audiophile USB isnt listed in the OP's list. Was wondering why that is. Is it because of the USB part of it? Because I see that the M Audio Audiophile Firewire is listed. I unfortunately do not have a firewire port on the mobo so that rules out any firewire card. Is the M Audio USB a viable option?
Sorry if this is a silly question. I could barely understand half of what you hard core audiophiles were talking about :tard: . TIA.
I had to go back and look to see why I didn't include it. First is that I didn't plan ahead when I made the first post and the list is almost maxed out as I can barely add any more info before the forum rejects it for too many characters. I should have reserved a second post to allow for more room. Maybe a Mod can help me out and allow me ot insert a second post in there somehow so I can expand the list.
Second, I think I didn't include it because it was only 2 channel, and at that price you could get the 6 channel Firewire version instead. Still it's a good card to consider. For that price though and if you only need two channels, you might be able to get a really nice USB DAC instead, although most USB DACs don't have line input if you need it. Maybe it has some other features you were looking for? Just some thoughts.
I did notice that the M Audio USB has only two channels. I would really like the M Audio Firewire but again, the mobo doesn't have that option. I would be needing the line input so that leaves out a USB DAC. I'm at a bit of a loss as to which external audio solution would work best for me. The list you have though is helping put things together a bit better for me.
Having good audio was something I left out when planning this project. But all the talk about audio from the audiophiles on this forum is infectious, and now I am needing something a bit higher level then a "consumer" solution. :tard:
muahhaha
welcome to the dark side!
