I have had three Pioneer systems...
the first one I used until I sold my truck...approx 10 years...
the second one I installed in '97 when the Nakamichi deck wouldn't play CDs anymore...other than the backlight has faded...and some wear on the buttons...it works just fine.
the third one I just installed in the wifes car.
I have an interface to plug the HU into the computer...the computer sends the song info (or whatever) to the HU...the HU controls the media player.
I have alpine amps and they're pretty great for the price(internet price).
The pdx line of amps are compact, efficient, and powerful - in other words, in tune with the current "form factor x performance" trends in technology. Which, i think, would be something important to this type of mobile computer community.
It's a great amp.
I have something against JL amps because I feel they don't offer enough for what they cost. I'd rather get a budget amp than a JL and save myself hundreds of dollars.
However, the alpine offers things that are worth it's price tage. You get:
1. 150rms x 4 at 4ohms!
2. D-class efficiency - good for the cars charging system. It may save you money from having to upgrade to a high-output alternator.
3. Form Factor - Clean wire terminals. Stackable. Compact size. It's a definite space saver, which is so important for small to midsize vehicles and trucks. It is also great for stealth installs because you can hide that thing easily.
Other companies are jumping the D-class multichannel band wagon - eclipse, rockford, etc.. but, from what I recall, their power to size ratio is still far behind Alpine's..
So yeah, get the Alpine if the above factors are important to your install.
Dont buy only one brand, cause if you do that you'll spend more money that you need, cause one brand have some kind of equipment that better than other brands, but not the entery line, Alpine is a great brand, but for the price you pay for their amps, you can get better amps same with comps, they are hard to beat with the subs.
But again search for individual equipment not your complete system from 1 brand, amps (if you have more than 1 can be from the same cause they are pretty similar) but check the speakers and sub from other brands is the best way to invest your money.
