    JL Audio VS Alpine

I'm planning to power up my speakers but confused in choosing the amp. Firstly, I wanna know what is the difference between JL e4300 and JL 300/4? The price difference is pretty significant. Btw, my speakers are Type-R from Alpine.

I heard that JL Amps contribute very clean and powerful sound, what about Alpine PDX 4.150?

To power up my speakers, what do you guys think I should take? Alpine has the most expensive pricing compare to the JLs I mention.

If there's another amp that you wanna recommend to me, feel free to throw your opinion here....I'm very happy with suggestions..

I also replied in the other thread:

I prefer alpine because you get a lot of features for it's price tag. With the JL you don't get much but reliability and name brand status. Alpine gives you both those as well.

There are 3 major features that really make the alpine worth it's money:

    1. 150rms x 4 at 4ohms and 2 ohms! It's also under-rated, (as with many amps in this class). Some people report great underatings, mine was more modest at 164rmsx4

    2. D-class efficiency - good for the cars charging system. It may save you money from having to upgrade to a high-output alternator.
Other companies are jumping the D-class multichannel band wagon - eclipse, rockford, etc.. but, from what I recall, their power to size to price ratio is still far behind Alpine's..

    3. Form Factor - Clean wire terminals and a clean look. Stackable, a testement to it's well thought out design(form&function). Compact size. It's a definite space saver, which is so important for small to midsize vehicles and trucks. It is also great for stealth installs because you can hide that thing easily.

So yeah, get the Alpine if the above factors are important to your install.

    edit to add:

oh yeah, there's also the alpine pdx 4.100 which is cheaper than the 4.150

and not much more than the JL.

Also, if you don't care about size and power efficiency, check out more midpriced amps such as pheonix gold, kicker, and hifonics.

First off, the E4300 is discoed.

If you want to know the big difference between JLs two series of amps, the slash series and what is now the A series (formerly E), then check this out

    http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_a...php?page_id=29

This is a tuff call for me. Normally I'm quick to jump on the Slash JL because I think with their advance circuitry, they are among the best amps available period! There is more to the JL Slash series than many users can understand. Its all about a different approach to circuitry and connection. For instance, due to an adaptive power supply, the JL 300/4 actually delivers near DOUBLE the rated power when connected to 4ohm speakers. The power is among the cleanest you'll find.

The PDX 4.150 is AWESOME! However, not exactly my first choice. I personally like a strong presence of Midbass in my car. The absolute only thing the 4.150 appears to lack is a bit of a strong lower-mid presence. A speaker w/ good sensitivity can help make up for that a little, but Still, I don't think it will rival the JL in that dept. As IRON points out, the Alpine is 150x4 @ 2 or 4ohms. The adaptive Power supply in the JL allow for all slash series amps to maintain thier power rating @ any impedence they are stable at. The build quality of the slash series gives you your money's worth and then some. Overall, I am torn between the two amps, I'd rather an A/B class on my interior front stage most days, due to typically better freq response, althought I think the 4.150 has better-than-average to begin with. I would have to say that still the JL Audio and their masterful crafting of the slash series is your best bet. Throw out bench tests and take it on a music-and-speaker level, the JL slash will challenge almost any amp out there. I have never heard a more musical, more accurate amp in my life. My 300/4 made all three sets of speakers I connected to it come to life in ways I haven't hear. Quart Q series, CDT CL61s and Focal Utopia were all at their most brilliant and the realism and imaging of the sound was jaw dropping. All had PLENTY of power and with a nice 4v signal from the Alpine up front I was able to provide ample power to any speaker set and still keep my gains low low.
Its not the cards you're dealt, its how you play the hand!

so the general concensus is that the PDX amps are good for the money? I'm planning on getting a 4.100 and 2 sets of type r components, and the 600w monoblock with a 10" type r sub, but I've never heard anything good or bad about them. I know Alpine tends to underrate their stuff which i really like. I know someone who bought a 1kw monoblock that was tested over 1150w!

Thanks all... I know this is a though decision to make since I want to invest in the best product. I use PDX 1.1000 already and it's really great in term of sound quality and power efficiency... The reason I dare myself to go with JL is because I use 2.4farad cap which I think will help the power system in my car.

I got another consideration now...What about Audison LRx4.300?? Seems like audison has a reputation as a high-end SQ Amp....

ok take it from me I have built many systems for kids that got handed down mommies and daddies vipers/vets, and came to me saying "money aint a thang" so I have spent my time seeing what you can do with no regard for money. On the flip side I also have friends/clientele on a budget, I attended mobile dynamics, I am also on name basis with all the good guys from alpine, focal, and JL audio, first off, JL w7 is what makes there name.. You hear JL audio you think w7, fact is, u don’t win SQ or even SPL comps with them, there a decent rounded woofer with high excursion, that’s IT! With that said jls “mass hype” is built on something that’s not even that good in my opinion. though JL 1000/1 JL500/1 amps are great, I love them to death, JL doesnt make garbage....yet

Alpine a once great company went down hill. And is going down hill period. I like to remember installing my CDA-9835(AMAZING AMAZING deck) and then installing a 9855 in my dads car, it was a joke, less voltage pre-outs, they lost 3 way crossover, they just lost so much of what defined them as a good company, I used a MRV-f545 and a mrd-1005 last year (paid 75 for the pair) best 75 dollars I ever spent, would I pay retail for them NO!

My basic point is these larger companies are going trendy, there selling to a larger demographic (wiggers mainly), were power means everything, even if quality has to be compromised, cause you know true l33tss is measured in PEAK wattage.

As for audison, you won’t go wrong, this year I plan on running the chrome shadow with my focal utopia’s. But to be honest to drive a sub, its not needed, I would personally probably go with alpine for the money.

If you EVER look to power anything other then a sub buy a phoenix gold TI500, AMAZING amp, don’t take it from spec dropping forum clowns, that jerkoff to specs and try to prove superiority buy dropping specs and going to every SQ/SPL comp in the state, take it from someone with a non-bias opinion that has spent more then $80 000 of other peoples money, trying every brand under the sun.

You can read all the reviews you want, they are swayed by buyers remorse, wankers pretending to have systems, and uneducated people thinking there entry level mb quarts, or coaxial focals are the epitome of sound quality.

So be smart sunnyjim lol, go find yourself an old PG titanium!

Again, it comes down to the JL circuitry. I ran a JL 300/2 and 2 JL 500/1 in my Honda CIvic w/ no cap and had NO problems.

I will disagree about the W7 making JLs name. JL Audio was the most popular subwoofer company out there, long before the W7 was a conception. I do agree that lots of people think JL and automatically associate w/ subs and now in particular the W7. I can remember at least one Toyota Supra winning an IASCA world championship w/ JL subs as well.

YOu are totally right about the 9855 vs 9835. The 9830 twins were the nicest decks Alpine built. Although I prefer the 9833 over the 35, the 55 was aweful.

As for the JL Amps, no one can argue the build quality. They are built to perform and to last fromt the switching PS, right down to the solid state internal RCA. Personally, I cannot imaging anyone that has heard these amps on quality speakers could say a bad word about them.

Audison LRX 4 is a great amp too. Known to be a bit picky though. Great for Seas components or Focals....Doesn't get along w/ some other speakers though. I remember MMats not being a good match, also I think MB Quart Premiums maybe too werent good.

it doesn’t make there name? I know 5-7 local dealers that can tell me 75% of there JL stock sold is w7 something, usually paired with a JL amp. there’s much better subs then the w7, anyone who knows a damn, knows how horrible the w7 motor is, and the Bl curve, and you'd know how overexaggerated the lowest octaves with the w7 are, NOT a great sub at all. I prefer w6s only reason people like w7's is the thermal handling and more Xmax/Xsus, do a good front end and a tight low end with a w6, its like sex. (the good kind) w7 is like pounding a fat lose chick with lots of power

and as for this feared w7(hell It's even got a rearward lean in it's Bl curve).... a w6 is louder up to 500 watts, the w7 gets louder at 600watts plus. because it's non linear excursion and cone area, since the surround is considered part of the effective piston on the w7, to top it off it even has less cone then a w6v2. basically i would get off the bandwaggon be looking into focal subs.

and as for there circuitry whoopee ****. the cleanest sounding amps (tube amps) have very little -edit- NO "state of the art" circuitry, JL is a large company wanting more of the pie, end of story, what ever names they have to drop they will, in the end 80% of consumers don’t know a damn and when they see flashy stuff they buy into it, do you honestly think “solid state internal RCA” means anything lol? Well ill be publishing a book soon on the dynamics of sound. Youll be the first on on my PDF mailing list
