have you gone back and checked all the wiring? Does the amp physically shut off? or is it just the audio output? are the terminals stripped? any other symptoms with it? like when the audio starts, it doesn't play at full capacity, etc etc?

likely wiring...poor or loose ground, poor connection to terminals, poor remote lead connection, one or more speakers going to ground and throwing the amp into protect...usually amps have an indicator for protection mode, does that light up when it comes out? How's your battery voltage? Lights dimming?

Since you're not throwing fuses (at least, I hope it's a properly fused system), I'd look at the remote wire and ground leads first.
