Completely re-doing my entire sound system need recommendations please!

Okay so here is where I am at:

I really have no set-in-stone idea of what I want. I also am not really positive on the difference between mid's and tweeter's. I drive a '77 Plymouth Volaré 2-door. It's a freaking huge beast, and I love it to death. It has a ton of trunk space! So I don't think that trunk space is really going to be a problem for the sub(s). As for the inside, there is a pretty big distance between the dash and the little insert between the trunk and the rear window. Sorry I'm not quite up on the lingo yet. I will have pictures and measurements up as soon as I have time.

My kinds of Music: I listen to a ton of different stuff regularly. If I had a working system, I would listen to Rock (System of a down - The Postal Service) , Classical, Oldies, and Techno.

Right now it has the factory 3 1/2 installed in the dash aaannnddd....... ......... THATS IT! It also has an AM radio... No tape player or anything, so I am planning on completely re-vamping my baby's entire sound system. Also, it hasn't been working for about 2 or 3 months now. It got really fuzzy one day, and the next day it just completely stopped working. When I turn the knob to give it power, I can hear the noise of the speaker turning on, but when I cycle through the stations there is absolute silence. I think that probably the antenna somehow got unhooked from the radio, but I'm not sure.

    Soooooo

Speakers: I want to replace the 3 1/2 dash, and I was thinking about adding 1 or 2 speakers in that insert between the rear window and the trunk, which will require either some cutting the vintage material, but I was thinking I might be able to . The car is also designed to have the optional door speaker(s) as well, but I'm not sure if I want those or not. At first I was thinking about getting the Infinity Reference 3012CF 3 1/2 for my dash, but since that one is going to be the closest one to me, do you think I should perhaps get a better one? Or do you think the Infinity will be adequate? I heard that Infinity is pretty good. As for the other speakers, I'm not even close to sure how many I want, or where, but I was sorta looking at the PolkA db 650 6 1/2 for the 1 or 2 that will be in the rear.

    Receiver/deck thingie:
I would like a receiver that can play CDs/CD-R's, Mp3,WMA's, and has a plug in where I can plug in an ipod and I wouldn't mind a plug-in for audio, like for my psp or something. I would appreciate to have the option of having satellite radio, but I doubt I will be a subscriber right when I buy the receiver. Finally, I would really like to have a removable face-plate. After that, I don't know what else to look for when it comes to receivers, except that it aught to be SEXY and work very smoothly with the rest of my system! I was looking at the Pioneer DEH-P3900MP.

    SUB(s):
I'm stuck at the 10" or 12" dilemma. I'm pretty sure that I want to go dual-subs, I'm just not sure what size, but I think that I would set the box Under the piece of material or w/e that contains the Rear speaker(s). If I re-make that Piece myself, should I maybe drill a few holes to let some of the sub through? I'll check the trunk and give an update on the type of materials separating the trunk from the rear seat.

    SUB Box:
Like I said, I was planning to go dual sub, but I dunno if I should go sealed, or Q-logic. And If I went w/Q-logic, should I get a type 2 or type 3?

    AMP:
For the amp, I really am not too picky, just something that will work cleanly with my subs. Also, I'd like it not to break!

EQ: I'm not exactly sure whats up with these, but since I listen to such completely different types of music, maybe I should get one? Or do you think that the EQ's built into the receiver will be adequate?

    Noice-canceling:
My car is an old, loud, beast. I plan on buying some new weather-stripping here in the very near future, which should cut-down a TON of the road/car related noise. I was just wondering if you guys actually recommend that Dynomat stuff that they advertise on the audio websites?

    Final Notes:
I spend a large amount of time driving everyday (1 1/2-2 hours), it's sort of my way to get away and just cruise. Right now, I have NOTHING as far as sound goes. My current car audio system consists of 2 crappy headphones connected to my PSP and it's actually illegal to drive with headphones on in my state. So basically what I am getting at, is that I would really like to get a system that fits me and that I am able to install by myself.
As far as my budget goes - like I said, I want something that fits me. I go to college full-time and I am working 2 part-time jobs. I know that getting a whole new audio system is going to cost a lot, but to me it's worth it, however I really don't need the top-of-the-line stuff. I want to be able to sit in my car, turn on my stereo, and smile.
    THANKS!
    Alex

This forum is dedicated to CarPCs and installing them in your car.

The car audio forum is dedicated to integrating your car audio system with your CarPC.

For specific questions related to car audio equipment systems that do not include CarPCs, I would recomend checking out car audio specific forums:

    http://www.elitecaraudio.com
    http://www.carsound.com
    http://www.caraudioforum.com
    http://forum.sounddomain.com
    http://www.realcaraudio.com
    http://www.carstereo.com
    http://www.caraudiomag.com
    http://www.termpro.com
    http://www.the12volt.com
    http://www.talkaudio.co.uk
    http://www.caraudiosecurity.com
    et. al.

There is a chance that someone on here might have an answer for you, I would just hate for you to wait around for it when I know you could get an answer much quicker on a dedicated forum.

    Good luck.

Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

Get the doors insert for speakers cause 3.5" spk have just a litlle midbass and you'll need it, and try get some good coaxials or decent comps at least.

For the HU there a lot of brands that have what you want, but check on Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, JVC, Eclipse those are some of the best price/performance brands out there.

If you have the space get 12" they'll be louder nad price isnt much difference between 10" and 12", i use 10" cause i cant go bigger. In what sub you should look is really hard cause we need more info to do this.

For the box go ported, FTW.

Amp or amps, that should be decided after you pick subs and speakers.

EQ is not a most have unless you're going for really great SQ for most of the plp the HU EQ is enough including me.

For sound deadner dynamat is one of the famous brand and one of the best, but you can get almost the same for a fraction of the price, check elemental design page for some good SD.

And as a final advice, go to one more dedicated forum so you get better answers for what you want, my personal favorite is www.caraudio.com.
