    Black Hole products...

The Black Hole Mat is a very good rubber based product. No smell and can be applied very easily with just a small amount of heat if you need to get it into tight crevices.

Well, I still have the front doors and trunk to do, so maybe I will try butyl(if I cant find it). I think the main reason why I chose Blueskin was because I could actually find it. The shops around here which actually sell sound dampening products usually charge a ridiculous price, so its hard to find anything decent. Please tell me more about this Black Hole product. Where can I get it? A google search yeilded no results.

However, the good news is that my Blueskin doesnt smell anymore (even after I left the car out in the sun for 11 hrs). Now I have to worry about how to keep it on permanently. I dont want it to fall off after 2, 3 yrs like Rudy said. Any suggestions on what I could use? Maybe I can use some sort of super glue to glue the edges of my Blueskin to the sheetmetal? I cannot rip out all of the Blueskin because it is stuck on pretty tight. The best I can do is maybe peel a bit of the edges off.

fair enough ruby i was just sorta wondering, because adding mass to the door panels will somewhat lower the amount of vibrations, but of course for the sound deadening, it won't do much for killing sound waves, but it will make it more difficult for the sound to pass through.

Oh, +1 for Second Skin Damplifier... that's what i have in my car

    v1SE is asphalt,
v1SEČ is butyl and what they are selling on their Web site now. It loses points though for having an extemely flimsy foil layer - won't melt or fall off, but one of the least effective butyl products you can buy.

I've seen a roll/paint on sound deadener that looks very promising, affordable too.

I'll see if I can find a link again....

roll on damper/deadner won't work on a large surface. deadening is about adding mass.... Those liquid deadeners are only good for hard to reach spots. or spots yiu cant use a mat on because of the shape.

    1. An important part of the damping takes place at the interface between the foil and the adhesive, but it requires a fairly rigid foil to work.
    2. Foil helps add stiffness to the panel
    3. Heavier foil is more effective at blocking sound
    4. Heabier foil protects the adhesive better
